Knights Open Busy Week Tuesday At USMMA

MSMC coming off home win against Maritime on Saturday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College begins a busy three-game conference stretch this week on Tuesday when it travels to the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off with the Mariners. The Mount continues conference play on Thursday with a trip to Sarah Lawrence before returning home to host Purchase Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary finished off a season-long five-game home stand on Saturday with an impressive 70-49 victory over Maritime. The win evened the Mount's conference record at 1-1 and moved it to 3-8 overall through the season's first 11 contests.
 
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) and Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) lead the Mount Saint Mary scoring attack entering the week, with Francis leading the way with 17.6 points per game and Morton checking in with just under 12 points per game. Morton is shooting 47.7-percent from the floor and hands out nearly three assists per game, while Francis leads the team with 29 three-point field goals and paces the squad with 4.5 assists per game to go along with just shy of four rebounds per outing.
 
Juniors Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) and Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) support the offense with 8.7 and 8.0 respectively with Fox shooting 53.0-percent from the floor while leading the team with 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Sienke paces the team from the floor, converting at 54.8-percent thus far.
 
Senior Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.) is putting together a solid all-around season for the Mount, leading the way with better than two steals per game while handing out just under three assists per game and chipping in 3.9 points per outing.
 
Mount Saint Mary begins the week scoring 63.5 points per game and is shooting 40.3-percent from the floor overall, 28.9-percent from three-point range and 67.0-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights collected their first league win of the season on Saturday after shooting 48.2-percent from the floor in a 21-point victory over visiting Maritime.
 
Francis led a balanced scoring attack with 20 points while Fox produced his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Sienke and Morton chipped in 14 and 11 points for the Knights.
 
The Mount defense also had a strong game, forcing 25 Maritime turnovers and holding the Privateers to 36-percent shooting and a 1-for-10 effort from three-point range.
 
A Look At USMMA: The Mariners enter Tuesday's tilt at 5-7 overall and 1-2 in league play following a 66-58 loss to Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon.
 
James Walsh leads the Mariners in several categories through 12 games, including scoring with just under 14 points per game. Walsh has connected on a team-high 21 three-point field goals and is good for 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
 
Blaine McDonough checks in with 10.5 points per game and is shooting 50.0-percent from the floor to go along with 7.4 rebounds per game. Seth Barnes contributes nearly nine points per game for the Mariners, while Connor Green is scoring 8.7 points per night and shooting better than 55-percent from three-point range.
 
As a unit, USMMA is scoring just over 62 points per game and is shooting 43.1-percent overall, 34.0-percent from long range and 64.0-percent from the charity stripe.
 
Recent History: The two sides have met eight times since 2007 with the Mount holding a 3-5 record. The Mariners have won the last two meetings with the Knights' last win coming in a 63-51 decision in Newburgh on February 13, 2018.
 
Scouting Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons enter a Tuesday contest against Maritime at 5-7 overall and 1-2 against Skyline Conference opponents. Sarah Lawrence snapped a five game losing streak on Saturday with a 79-73 overtime win at Purchase.
 
Omar Jamaleddine averages a double-double for the Gryphons through 12 games and is one of four players good for at least nine points per game. He leads the team with 22.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game and is shooting 42.0-percent overall with a team-high 23 three-point field goals.
 
Enike Anyia is good for 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 61.5-percent from the field with Chris Torres scoring 11.2 points per game with a 44.0-percent conversion rate overall and a 42.6-percent rate from bonus distance.
 
B.J. Sanders is in the midst of a steady all-around season with 9.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and a team-high 2.4 assists per game while shooting nearly 49-percent from the floor.
 
Sarah Lawrence begins the week scoring just under 80 points per game and is converting at 44.1-percent overall, 32.4-percent from three-point range and 67.8-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary and Sarah Lawrence have met 10 times prior to Thursday clash with the Knights holding an 8-2 record. The Mount had a five game winning streak against the Gryphons stopped with a tight 62-60 loss on the road on February 6, 2019.
 
Previewing Purchase: Purchase also closes a three game week on Saturday when it travels to Newburgh. The Panthers enter a Tuesday clash with cross-town rival Manhattanville with a 6-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark against league rivals following Saturday's overtime loss to Sarah Lawrence.
 
A potent scoring attack for Purchase features five players good for at least 8.5 points per game, led by 24.6 points per game from Elijah Lott. Lott converts at better than 50-percent from the floor and paces the team with 5.1 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
 
Jorge Perdomo checks in with 16.2 points per game and has connected on a team-high 31 three-point field goals while shooting 45.1-percent from the floor. Maxx Miller is shooting nearly 49-percent from the field and is good for 14.4 points per outing for the Panthers.
 
Elijah Harris contributes 9.6 points per game while Kyle Menard chips in 8.6 points per outing for Purchase. Andre Peguero leads the team on the glass with nearly eight caroms per night to go along with a team best 1.1 blocks per game.
 
Purchase begins the week scoring nearly 82 points per game while shooting 44.8-percent overall, 31.8-percent from three-point range and 73.3-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Recent History: The Mount has dropped four of the last five meetings to Purchase with its last win coming in a 55-46 home decision on December 11, 2018.
 
What's Next: Following Saturday's contest with Purchase, the Knights will head to Long Island for a pair of games when they take on Farmingdale State on January 22 and Old Westbury on January 25.
