Men's Soccer Heads North For The Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic

Knights aim to build on Wednesday's win

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team travels to SUNY Plattsburgh to play in the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Knights take on William Paterson on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and then will take on either Hobart or Plattsburgh on Saturday at either 12:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.

At A Glance: The Knights are 2-1 in the early season after a 2-1 win over Bard on Wednesday. Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) scored his first two goals of the season in the victory.

Joseph Bacalhau (Woodbridge, N.J.) has one goal and two assists on the season as Dolan leads the Knights in shots taken with 13 and Connor Doyle is second with six. 

Junior Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has started all three games in goal for the Knights and has posted one shutout. He also sports a 1.00 goals against average and has made seven saves on the season.

Last Time Out: In the Knights 2-1 win over Bard, The Mount struggled to find the range in the first half as the Knights outshot Bard 9-0 in the first half. Mount Saint Mary also dominated corner kicks 6-0 as they failed to find the back of the net in the early going. 

Early in the second half, the Mount lit the scoreboard first as Dolan received a pass from Bacalhau inside the box and fired past the keeper to tally his first goal of the season at the 57:56 mark. The Bacalhau to Dolan connection struck again later in the half as Dolan scored his second tally of the evening in the 67th minute to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage. 

The Mount finished the contest with a 16-2 shots advantage as well as a 7-2 shots on goal edge. The Knights also held the edge in corner kicks at 8-1.

Scouting William Paterson: The Pioneers are 0-2-1 in the early going after a 4-4 draw against FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening. 

Jordan Sailing leads William Paterson in goals with two as Chris Fuentes and Kyle Adams have the other two goals on the season. Martin Menendez has the lone assist for the Pioneers. 

In goal, Kyle Quigley has started all three games for William Paterson as he has made 19 saves and has posted a 2.79 GAA.

Next Up: The Knights return home to take on Yeshiva in the Skyline Conference opener on Wednesday, September 11. Kick-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
