Women’s Tennis Sweeps Sarah Lawrence

Knights collect second conference victory

Bronxville, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team returned to Skyline Conference play on Saturday, scoring an impressive 9-0 win on the road at Sarah Lawrence. Senior Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) moved into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time singles wins list with a top flight victory against Gryphons.
 
The Knights got off to a good start on Saturday, opening a 3-0 lead after taking each of the three doubles contests. The top pair of Carnovale and Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) won for the third time this season and improved to 3-4 on the year after cruising to an 8-1 victory for the Knights.
 
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) and Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) teamed up for the sixth time this season and posted an 8-5 victory for the Mount at the second position. Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) continued their strong play together, teaming up for an 8-3 victory at the third flight, moving to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
 
In singles play, the Knights saw a pair of players win for the first time this season. Clay won her first match at the second flight for the Mount, battling to a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) victory, while Vernon was victorious for the first time at the third slot with a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) triumph.
 
Carnovale improved to 6-1 on the season and scored her 42nd career singles victory, moving her into sole possession of sixth place on the Mount's all-time win list. She eased to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the first position for the Mount.
 
Goetz continued the strong start to her season on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-2 fifth slot victory, moving her to 5-2 on the season, and Murray improved to 5-2 on the year with a 6-0, 6-1 fourth singles win for the Knights. Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) moved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the sixth position on Saturday. 
 
Saturday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 3-4 overall on the season and to 2-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights return to action on Tuesday when they welcome Hartwick to Newburgh for a non-conference match. First serve with the Hawks is slated for 4:30 p.m.
