Women’s Soccer Edged By Hartwick, 2-1

Cannella pots sixth of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team suffered its fifth straight loss on Wednesday night following a 2-1 non-conference defeat at the hands of visiting Hartwick. Senior Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored her sixth goal of the season for the Mount.

Hartwick got on the board early on Wednesday, posting its first of the game in the 14th minute. Dana Camputo started a free kick that found the head of Tanner Reed who scored her first of two goals in the game at the 13:30 mark of the contest.

Following the goal, Mount Saint Mary outshot Hartwick 3-1 heading into halftime and finished the period with a 3-2 advantage in attempts. The Knights also took three of the four corners in the first period, but could not get the game even.

The game remained 1-0 until the 61st minute when Cannella brought the Mount event at 1-1 with her team leading sixth tally of the year. She tucked a penalty kick inside the left post at 60:13 to give the Mount its first goal since Cannella scored in the 84th minute against Ithaca on September 7.

Hartwick answered with the eventual game winning goal just over five minutes later. Reed got her second of the game when she found a free ball played into the box by Katie Weaver and touched by Gabrielle Kreppein at the 65:52 mark of the contest to close out the scoring in the game.

Hartwick finished the second half with a 6-3 advantage in shots and closed the night with an 8-6 advantage in overall attempts and a 5-2 edge in shots on target. Mount Saint Mary took the corner kick advantage 5-2 on the night.

Cannella moved her team lead in goals to six and points to 13 with her marker on Wednesday and was one of five different players with an attempt on the night. Lauren Engel (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Mount with two shots, joining Cannella with a shot on goal.
In her sixth start of the season, Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) made a trio of saves for the Knights. Cassandra Robataille was forced to make only one stop in picking up her fifth win of the year.

Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-7 overall on the season. The Knights return to Skyline Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Sarah Lawrence. Kick-off at Fleming Field in Yonkers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
