Men's Soccer Draws Manhattanville, 2-2

Doyle scores twice to tie the team lead

Purchase, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team fought back late in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw with Skyline foe Manhattanville on Tuesday night. Sophomore Connor Doyle scored both second-half goals to secure a point for the Knights.

The Valiants put the first tally on the board early in the first half as Fabori Conde scored his third goal of the season off of assists from Gabe Jefferies and Pablo Bravo Olle in the 7th minute. The Mount had back-to-back strong chances turned away from Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) in the 15th and 16th minutes.

The Knights held a 6-4 shots advantage in the first half as the Valiants held a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks throughout the first 45 minutes. Manhattanville goalkeeper Patryk Siwiec made six saves in the half.

Manhattanville added its second goal of the contest at the 66:26 mark as Marius Nicolaysen scored his second goal of the year from the penalty spot. The Mount countered with its first goal of the game just 50 seconds later when Ramirez played a ball into the box and it was buried by Doyle to cut the Manhattanville lead to one.

Mount Saint Mary drew the game even in the 73rd minute when Doyle knocked one past the keeper after a rebound off the crossbar found his foot. Neither team coudl score in the final 17 minutes as both teams were down to 10 men after the 81:31 mark.

Manhattanville had a 11-10 advantage in shots after regulation and a 7-5 edge in corners after 90 minutes.

The Mount's best chance in overtime came at the 96:34 mark on a Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) cross that found the head of Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) but was saved by Siwiec. Neither team could find the back of the net in the second overtime and both teams earned a point in the 2-2 draw.

Doyle's two goals ties him with Dolan and Wyant for the team lead with three. Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) made five saves in the contest for the Mount as Siwiec finished the contest with six saves. Manhattanville finished the game with a 14-13 edge in shots and an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.

At 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Skyline Conference play, the Mount returns to action against St. Joseph's-Brooklynn at home on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off with the Bears is scheduled for 2:00 p.m at Kaplan Field.
