Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team suffered a hard fought 5-4 Skyline Conference loss to visiting Manhattanville on Tuesday evening.
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.),
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) and
Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored singles wins for the Knights.
Murray moved to 4-2 overall on the season and 4-1 at the fourth singles position with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over her opponent from Manhattanville. Her four wins on the season are second on the team through the first six matches of the season.
Goetz improved to an even 3-3 on the season with a fifth singles win for the Mount, while Monahan scored her first singles victory of the season. Goetz posted a convincing 6-1, 6-0 triumph for the Knights, while Monahan battled to a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) win at the sixth position.
In doubles action, the third pair of Murray and
Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) continued their strong play together. The duo moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season in Tuesday's win with an impressive 8-1 victory for the Mount.
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 2-4 overall on the season and to 1-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a Skyline Conference road match at Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. First serve with the Gryphons is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
