Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team opened the Skyline Conference schedule on Sunday afternoon and scored a hard fought 5-4 home win over Yeshiva. Senior
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) remained unbeaten in singles play for the Knights.
Carnovale moved to a perfect 5-0 in singles play on Sunday, earning the team point that clinched the win for the Knights in their initial conference match of the season. Carnovale moved into a tie for sixth place all-time on the singles wins list on Sunday with a 7-5, 6-3 win for the Knights.
Positions four, five and six for the Mount went 3-0 on Sunday to help the Knights overcome a 2-1 deficit following doubles action.
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) moved to 3-2 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the fourth position, while
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) won her second singles match of the season with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the fifth slot.
Quinn moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season at the sixth position on Sunday, sweeping her opponent from Yeshiva in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.
Carnovale and
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) posted the Mount's lone doubles win on Sunday, topping Yeshiva's top pair 8-4. The win gives Carnovale 70 combined wins in her career, moving her into 10
th all-time at the Mount in combined victories.
Sunday's victory pushes Mount Saint Mary to 2-3 overall on the season and to 1-0 in Skyline Conference action. The Knights continue Skyline Conference play on Tuesday when they play host to Manhattanville. Matches with the Valiants are set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
