Danbury, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team took to the road on Thursday evening and dropped a 6-3 non-conference decision at Western Connecticut. Senior
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) picked up singles wins for the Knights.
Carnovale pushed her singles record to a perfect 4-0 with her first flight victory over the Colonials. She picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory for the Knights, scoring her 40
th career singles victory. The win continued Carnovale's ascent up the Mount Saint Mary career singles wins record book, moving her into sole possession of eighth place all-time.
Quinn picked up her second singles win in her last two outings on Thursday, topping her opponent from West Conn at the sixth position. She outlasted her opponent with a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory to move to 2-0 in singles matches on the season.
In doubles play, the third pair of
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and
Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) won for the second time together. In a tough contest, the duo scored an 8-6 victory for the Knights over the Colonials.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-3 on the young season. Next up for the Mount is the Skyline Conference opener against Yeshiva on Sunday. First serve with the Maccabees is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
