Men's Soccer Set To Tussle With Middlebury

Knights look to build off 5-1 victory over Yeshiva

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team heads north to the Green Mountain State to take on #RV/RV Middlebury on Tuesday evening. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Live stats and video are available for those unable to attend.

At A Glance: The Knights returned to the win column last Wednesday with a 5-1 victory in the Skyline Conference opener against Yeshiva. Five different players scored in the triumph for the Mount. Mount Saint Mary enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-3 overall record and 1-0 in Skyline play.

Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) and Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead in goals with three apiece as Joseph Bacalhau (Woodbridge, N.J.) has the team high in assists with two and has added a goal. Junior Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up his first weekly award of the year as he was named the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has started five of the six games in goal for the Mount this season. He has posted a 2.01 goals against average and has made 18 saves and recorded one shutout. Sean Madden (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) started the other game for the Knights, making three saves in 76:50 minutes of action.

Last Time Out:  The Mount won its Skyline Conference opener on Wednesday evening as the Knights defeated Yeshiva 5-1 at Kaplan Field. Five different players found the back of the net in the Mount victory.

The Knights offense found its groove earlier in the first half when Dolan scored his third goal of the season on a sweet cross from the end line from freshman Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) in the 7th minute.  At the 38:24 mark, Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) fed Tyler Vermilyea (Rosendale, N.Y.) who buried the ball through the keeper's hands for his first tally of the year to give the Knights a 2-1 advantage heading into the halftime intermission. The Knights held a 17-6 shots advantage through the first 45 minutes and registered the lone two corner kicks of the half.

Vermilyea's second half cross found the head of Doyle who knocked home his first goal of the season to push the Mount lead to two. The Knights then proceeded to score goals just 46 seconds apart as Wyant scored his third goal of the year off a penalty kick and Zidan Douglas (Middletown, N.Y.) scored his first career goal as a Knight to put the Mount up 5-1.

The Mount held a 6-1 shots edge in the second half as a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Dolan and Wyant remain tied for the team lead in goals with three apiece as Madden picked up his first win of the season after making two saves in the first half. Rapp made one save in the second 45 minutes of play. The Knights finished the game with a 23-7 advantage in shots as well as a 9-4 shots on goal edge. Mount Saint Mary also took all six corner kicks in the contest.

Scouting #RV/RV Middlebury: The Panthers enter Wednesday's contest with a 1-0-2 record after defeating Norwich 2-0 and drawing both Wesleyan (Conn.) and Bowdoin 0-0.

Drew Goulart and Ben Potter have scored the lone two goals for the Panthers as Noah Hannam holds the only assist of the season. Freshman Ryan Grady has started all three games in net for Middlebury and has made nine saves in 268:50 minutes of action.

What's Next: The Knights continue a three game road trip when they travel to Rutgers-Newark on September 23. Kick-off with the Scarlet Raiders is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
