Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team earned its first win of the season on Sunday, battling past Pratt by a score of 5-4. The Knights won three of the six singles matches on the day with
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) scoring her first victories of the season.
Senior
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) moved to a perfect 3-0 at the first singles position on Sunday with a 6-2, retired victory for the Knights. The win is the 39
th singles victory for Carnovale, moving her into a tie for eighth place on the all-time singles list with Jennifer Gregory.
Sophomore
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) moved to 2-1 on the season in singles action on Sunday after she scored a win at the fourth position for the Knights. Murray earned her victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph for the Mount.
Quinn found the win column for the first time in 2019 on Sunday at the sixth position. She battled past her opponent from Pratt for a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Mount Saint Mary got off to a good start on Sunday after taking two of the three doubles contests.
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) and
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 win at the second position, while Murray and
Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) cruised to an 8-1 triumph at the third slot.
Sunday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 1-2 overall on the season. Next up for the Knights is a Skyline Conference tilt with Yeshiva on September 22. Match time with the Maccabees is set for 12:00 p.m.
