Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team suffered its ninth straight loss on Tuesday evening as the Knights dropped a 17-2 Skyline contest to St. Joseph's-L.I. Sophomore
Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) made six saves in the loss.
The Golden Eagles scored the first 14 goals of the contest on Tuesday night and took a 14-0 lead into the halftime intermission. Diana Johnston scored four goals in the half for St. Joseph's-L.I. while Tori Staker wired the net three times and Nicole Stoppelli and Lauryn Gregson each added two goals.
St. Joseph's-L.I. held a 24-5 shots advantage after the first half and a 19-3 shots on goal edge. The Golden Eagles also held the groundballs advantage of 11-8 and a draw controls edge of 11-4. Finkel made five of her six saves in the first half.
The Knights found the back of the net for the first time with 23:33 remaining in the second half on a
Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) free position goal. Mount Saint Mary quickly followed with the second goal of the game on a shot from
Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.). Her goal at the 21:16 mark was her team-high 15th of the season.Â
The Golden Eagles scored the final three goals of the contest as Gregson, Stoppelli and Samantha Caruso each found the back of the net in the final 19 minutes of the second half.
Condron finished with a caused turnover as well as a team-high two draw controls.
Providence Gilkey (Shirley, N.Y.),
Meghan Cumming (Massapequa Park, N.Y.),
Kerrigan Shaw (Prospect, Conn.) and
Nicole Cervone (Shirley, N.Y.) each picked up two groundballs for the Knights. Cumming and Cervone each had a caused turnover while four more Knights won a draw control.
Johnston finished with a game-high four goals with Staker , Gregson and Stoppelli each having three goals. Stoppelli also added three assists, six groundballs and two caused turnovers. Staker had a game-high nine draw controls for the Golden Eagles.
St. Joseph's-L.I. finished with a 29-10 shots advantage and 23-8 in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also held a 13-10 edge in groundballs and 15-6 advantage in draw controls.
At 0-9 overall and 0-3 in the Skyline Conference, Mount Saint Mary returns to action against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field. First draw on Friends with Jaclyn day is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
