Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team lost a tight contest to Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 15-12 Skyline contest.
Hope Blanc (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored her first four goals of the season in the loss.
The Knights jumped out to an early 4-1 lead as Blanc wired the net three times and
Providence Gilkey (Shirley, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the first 12 minutes. Blanc's fourth goal of the game came at the 8:09 mark of the first half to push the lead to a game-high four.Â
Mount Saint Vincent scored two goals in the eight minutes to cut the lead to two at the halftime intermission. The Mount finished the half outshooting the Dolphins 19-15 and 17-11 in shots on goal. The Dolphins held a slim edge in groundballs at 13-10 as well as draw controls at 9-4.
The Dolphins scored the first two goals of the second half to tie the game at seven after goals from Emma Dell'Aquila and Caitlin Elia.
Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the day at the 23:52 mark to put the Knights back on top.Â
Mount Saint Vincent responded with four straight goals to put the Dolphins on top at 11-8 on two goals from Dell'Aquila and a goal apiece from Elia and Shannon Dalton. Gilkey ended the run with her second goal of the game at the 10:26 mark.
After Elia's goal with 8:40 remaining to push the Dolphins lead back to three,
Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored two straight goals to cut the lead back to one with 4:12 to go. Dell'Aquila scored the final two goals of the game as the Knights couldn't find another goal in the final minutes.
Condron finished with three goals and two groundballs while Shalvey and Gilkey each added two goals.
Meghan Cumming (Massapequa, Park, N.Y.) chipped in one goal, four groundballs, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) also had three draw controls for the Knights.
Dell'Aquila finished with five goals and three assists for Mount Saint Vincent and Caitlin Elia added four goals, two assists and four draw controls.
Morgan Pavlik picked up six groundballs while Kacey Brown had four caused turnovers. Pavilk also had a game-high nine draw controls.Â
Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) tied a career-high making 15 saves in the loss while Dolphins goalie Allyson Weakliem stopped 17 shots as she picked up the win.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the contest with a 37-34 shots advantage and a 30-29 shots on goal advantage. The Dolphins also held the edge in groundballs at 20-18 and 19-10 in draw controls.
At 0-10 overall and 0-4 in Skyline play, the Knights return to action in the final home game of the season against Purchase on Monday. First draw is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at Kaplan Field.
