Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team earned its first win of the season on Monday night as the Knights defeated Purchase 15-8 at Kaplan Field. Junior
Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals in the victory for the Mount.
Condron got the scoring going early as she netted the first goal of the game just one minute and 23 seconds into the contest. After
Anne Dolan's (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) goal at the 21:06 mark of the first half, Purchase scored three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead.Â
The Mount responded with five straight goals before the halftime intermission to take a 7-4 lead. Condron found the back of the net twice during the run while Dolan,
Nicole Cervone (Shirley, N.Y.) and
Alyssa DiMare (Staten Island, N.Y.) each scored once.Â
Mount Saint Mary held a 16-13 advantage in shots and 13-9 in shots on goal at the half. The Knights also held a groundballs edge at 16-11 while draw controls were even at six apiece.
The Knights scored the first four goals coming out of the half as
Kathryn McQuillan's (Baldwin, N.Y.) first goal of the season started the four goal spurt. Condron added two more goals during the run while Dolan added her third of the night.Â
After two goals from Purchase cut the lead to six,
Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the night followed by Condron's sixth goal of the night. DiMare and Dolan added two more goals before the end of the contest to give the Knights their first win of the season.
Condron added to a career night with an assist, two draw controls, one groundball and one caused turnover. Dolan finished with four goals on the night and one assist while DiMare added two goals and six draw controls. Cervone finished with one goal, two assists, six groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Hope Blanc (Wantagh, N.Y.) added three caused turnovers and six groundballs.
Gabriella Castles finished with four goals for Purchase and added four draw controls. Maddy Mecca added three goals, five groundballs, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Sigrid Cassell added a goal, five groundballs and four draw controls.
Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) picked up the win for the Knights, making nine saves and picking up five groundballs. Brianna Pirozzi made 10 saves in the loss for the Panthers.
Mount Saint Mary finished with a 30-26 advantage in shots as well as a 25-17 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights also held the edge in groundballs at 31-20 while Purchase held a slim advantage in draw controls at 13-12.
At 1-10 overall and 1-4 in Skyline contests, the Mount returns to action on Tuesday, April 23 on the road against the United States Merchant Marine Academy. First draw with the Mariners is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
