Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight contest on Saturday, falling 11-6 on the road at Farmingdale State in its Skyline Conference opener. Junior
Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with three points, while
Jake Camerino (Shelton, Conn.) picked up nine groundballs.
The two teams split the first two goals of game, with
Thomas Bahmer III (East Brunswick, N.J.) getting the Mount even at 1-1 with just over seven minutes left in the first period with his 11
th tally of the season.
Following the Bahmer tally, the Rams potted the final four goals of the first half to take a 5-1 advantage into the intermission. Shane Clark put the Rams in front for good in the game at the 4:02 mark of the first period and added his 12
th of the season with one second left in the second frame to give Farmingdale the four goal halftime advantage.
Mount Saint Mary held an 18-15 edge in overall shots over the opening 30 minutes, while the Rams finished the half with a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. First half face-offs went to the Mount 4-3 as did groundballs 14-12.
Farmingdale State spread its lead to 6-1 early in the third stanza, before the Mount scored the next two goals to pull to within 6-3.
Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) potted his team leading 17
th goal of the season with 10:14 left in the third period and Maraio followed with his 12
th at the 7:46 mark to get the Knights back to within three goals.
The Rams responded with three of the next four goals to pull in front 9-4 with the Knights answering with goals from Maraio and
Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) early in the final stanza to get back to within three goals.
The Knights would not be able to edge closer than the three shot disadvantage and saw the Rams add the final two goals of the game to close the final five goal decision.
Maraio scored twice and assisted on a goal for the Knights to move his team lead in assists to 15 and his team mark in points to 28. Holland scored his team leading 17
th goal of the season and joined Bahmer with a goal and an assist in the contest.
Sophomore
Matthew Martino (Watertown, Conn.) continued his steady play on defensive with five caused turnovers and four groundballs, while Camerino paced the Mount with his nine groundballs.
Marco Spagnuolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up three groundballs for the Mount and went 13-for-20 in face-offs on the day.
Farmingdale State was led by three goals from Clark with Dylan Fitzgerald and James Ragland adding two goals and an assist apiece. Brodie Culkin and Dan Panzarino collected five groundballs each, with Nick Bucholz winning four face-offs.
Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) took the loss in goal for the Mount, finishing with eight saves. Dan Wood scored the victory, stopping 13 shots for the Rams.
For the game, Mount Saint Mary finished with the edge in nearly every team category, outshooting the Rams 37-35 overall. Shots on goal in the game were even at 19-19, with the Mount holding the team advantage in groundballs 33-30 and face-offs 13-7. The Knights went 17-for-22 in clearing chances on Saturday and finished the day 0-1 with the man advantage.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 3-8 overall on the season and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is the first of two straight home games, when it welcome Purchase to Kaplan Field on Wednesday. Face-off with the Panthers is set for 7:00 p.m.
