Men’s Lacrosse Opens Skyline Conference Play At Farmingdale State

Knights look to stop three game skid in league opener

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team will look to stop a three game losing streak on Saturday when it begins Skyline Conference play on the road at Farmingdale State. Face-off with the Rams is set for 1:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those who cannot attend the game.
 
At A Glance: The Knights enter Saturday's league opener at 3-7 overall and have dropped their last three contests. The Mount fell 21-7 to Wilkes on March 30 and are in search of their first win since a thrilling 10-9 double overtime win over Manhattanville on March 20.
 
The Mount's offensive attack features three players with at least 10 goals on the year, led by a team-high 16 markers from junior Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.). Holland adds four assists for 20 points and has chipped in 17 groundballs and five caused turnovers.
 
Junior Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) has helped on a team-high 14 goals and holds the team lead in points with 25 with the addition of 11 goals. He has contributed 21 groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers thus far. Thomas Bahmer III (East Brunswick, N.J.) chips in 10 goals for the Mount, while Anthony Kearns (Clinton, N.J.) is good for seven goals, eight assists, 15 points, 13 groundballs and seven caused turnovers.
 
Sophomore Matthew Martino (Watertown, Conn.) anchors the Mount's defense with a team-high 26 caused turnovers to go along with a team best 38 groundballs. Senior Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) checks in with 12 caused turnovers and 25 groundballs, while Vinny Vaccaro (Floral Park, N.Y.) has caused 10 miscues and contributed 17 groundballs, six goals and seven points.
 
Marco Spagnuolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) has taken 161 of the team's 242 face-offs thus far and won 71 for a percentage of .441 to go along with 29 groundballs. Freshman Dennis Dowd (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) has won 20 face-offs for the Mount and collected a pair of groundballs.
In goal, junior Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) has started each of the Mount's 10 games and posted a .468 save percentage in 525:35 of action. Laikin holds a 13.24 goals against average and made 102 saves for the Knights.
 
Last Time Out: The Mount fell to 2-4 in home games on March 30 when Wilkes came away with a 21-7 victory at Kaplan Field. The Knights outshot Wilkes 44-40 overall in the game, but the Colonels finished with the edge in shots on goal 27-23, groundballs 42-40 and face-offs 20-11.
 
Holland led the scoring attack for the Knights with two goals and three points, while Maraio assisted on two goals. Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) and Brandon Holloway (Garden City, N.Y.) each finished the day with a goal and an assist.
 
Wilkes was led by 12 points from John Wink who scored five times and assisted on seven other tallies. Luke Palladino finished off the win for the Colonels with eight points on the strength of five goals and three helpers, while Carter Whittemore earned the win in goal with 15 saves.
 
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams enter the weekend with a 7-3 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league play following a tight 9-8 win over St. Joseph's-L.I. on April 2. The Rams overcame a one goal deficit in the fourth period with goals from Jake Satterley and Peter Engelken in the final 5:17 of regulation time.
 
Farmingdale State features seven players with at least 10 goals on the year, led by James Ragland who has potted 21 goals and is good for 28 points. A.J. Sandorfi leads the way with 19 assists and has contributed 16 goals for a team-high 35 points.
 
John McMahon has won a team-high 74 face-offs for the Rams and paces the team with 58 groundballs. Dan Panzarino has caused a team best 17 turnovers and picked up 25 groundballs heading into the weekend.
 
Dan Wood has seen the bulk of action in the cage for Farmingdale State, playing 473:07 of a possible 614:59. He holds an 8.50 goals against average and a .571 save percentage while making 89 saves in nine appearances.
 
Heading into the weekend, Farmingdale State leads the Skyline Conference in assists per game (9.6) and points per game (23.8).

What's Next: Following Saturday's battle with the Rams, Mount Saint Mary will play a pair of home league games next week when it hosts Purchase on April 10 and the College of Mount Saint Vincent on April 13.
