Baseball Set For Skyline Action With Farmingdale State, Yeshiva

Knights look to end four game losing skid

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team returns to Skyline Conference action this weekend as they travel to Farmingdale State on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader and then head to Yeshiva on Sunday afternoon for a 12:00 p.m. twinbill. The doubleheader with Yeshiva will be played at Overpeck Park in New Jersey.

At A Glance: The Knights dropped two non-conference midweek contests to NJCU and Oneonta to fall to 8-9 (2-4 Skyline) on the season.

Three players are hitting above .380 on the season as Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) is hitting .419 on the season with 18 hits and seven runs batted in. 

John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) is hitting an .388 on the season and holds the team lead in runs batted in with 11 while Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.) is third in average at .381 while leading in on-base percentage at .474 and he is 10-for-11 in stolen base attempts. Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) is second in runs batted in with 10 so far this season.

Christian Spano leads in innings pitched with 22.2 while holding a 6.35 earned run average while Sal Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) holds the team lead in innings pitched with 19.0 while holding a team best 1.89 ERA. Santana has logged 15.0 innings and boasts a 4.20 ERA in addition to Matt Barbieri (New Paltz, N.Y.) tossing 14 and two-thirds while having a 4.91 earned run average.

The Knights hold a .921 fielding percentage and a 4.05 team ERA. The Mount holds a team batting average of .266 batting average this season and holds a .260 batting average against. As a team, the Knights are 41-47 in stolen base attempts.

Last Time Out: The Mount lost a high scoring affair on Wednesday evening as Oneonta defeated the Knights 11-8. Mirra went 3-for-5 in the contest while Ryan Lutinski (Easton, Conn.) crushed a two run homerun in the defeat.

Alexander Maher (Mineola, N.Y.) took the loss for the Mount as he threw two innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out three. Michael Losek picked up the win for the Red Dragons, tossing three innings on one hit and one earned run.

Mirra added a double and a RBI and Santana had three RBI for the Knights. Merlin and Tait each had two hits while Lutinski finished with two RBI.


A Look At Farmingdale State: The Rams are 16-5 (5-1 Skyline) and comes in on a nine game winning streak following a 10-9 win over Lehman.

Vincent Rice leads Farmingdale State in batting average at .400, leads in runs batted in with 14, on base percentage at .472 and runs scored with 15. Steven Burke is hitting .396 and has 10 RBI. Jason Conti has 16 hits and has drove in nine runs.

Matthew Constantine leads the Rams on the mound with 30.1 innings pitched with a 4-1 record and 2.67 ERA. He also leads in strikeouts with 24 on the season. Joe Marino and Burke each hold a 2.45 ERA while five different players have picked up a save for Farmingdale State. Three relievers hold a 0.00 ERA after tossing 10 or more innings.

Defensively, the Rams hold a .955 fielding percentage while holding a team ERA of 3.10 and a batting average against of .239. Offensively, they are hitting .301 as a team and have stolen 54 bases on the year.

Studying Yeshiva: Heading into today's contest with St. Joseph's-L.I., the Maccabees are 2-15 (0-10 Skyline) on the year after a 15-3 victory over Vaughn on Tuesday.

Zachary Baly is hitting .268 to lead Yeshiva while Alex Malech is hitting .265. Aryeh Salovey has hit three home runs for the Maccabees and has the team high in runs batted in with nine. Baly also holds a team high on base percentage of .434.

Dovie Solomon leads the Maccabees in innings pitched with 25.1 while holding a 7.11 ERA. Alex Malach is second in innings with 12.1 while boasting an 8.03 ERA.

Defensively, Yeshiva holds a .877 fielding percentage and holds a team ERA of 11.83 and a batting average against of .376. They have also given up 85 stolen bases on the season. Offensively, they are hitting .178 and are 30-37 in stolen base attempts.

What's Next: Mount Saint Mary returns home for a five game homestand as Manhattanville comes to town on Wednesday afternoon. The single game contest is scheduled for 4:00
