Danbury, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team got back into the win column on Wednesday evening, topping Western Connecticut for the second time this season by a score of 6-3.
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.),
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) and
Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) all picked up singles wins of the Mount.
Mount Saint Mary opened a 3-0 lead over the Colonials with a sweep of the three doubles matches. The top duo of
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Tiriolo won for the ninth time in 12 outings with an 8-1 win, with
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) and Gallo posting an 8-3 win to improve to 8-2 on the season. Ryan and
David Gonzalez (Middletown, N.Y.) returned to action together and won for the fourth time this season with an 8-5 third position win.
In the singles competition, the Mount clinched the win with victories at the third, fourth and fifth positions. Tiriolo cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the third slot to improve to 11-1 overall on the season and 9-1 in his last 10 outings. Gallo continued his strong sophomore season with a 7-5, 6-1 fourth position win to improve to 7-3 on the season, while Ryan moved to 7-5 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at fifth singles for the Knights.
Wednesday's win gives the Mount five wins in its last six outings and pushes it to 9-3 overall on the season. The Knights will close out the regular season on Tuesday when it travels to the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a 4:00 p.m. match with the Mariners.
