Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team took a split in a doubleheader against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won a 5-3 contest in game one and then dropped the nightcap 7-4 in six innings after the game was called due to darkness.

The Knights got on the board first in the third inning when
Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) singled home
Jillian Picarillo (Troy, N.Y.) with two outs. The Mount push the lead to two when
Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.) had a RBI single in the fourth inning.
Mount Saint Mary put up three runs in the fifth as
Morgan O'Neill (Little Falls, N.Y.) had a RBI sacrifice bunt to score Lang and
Lauren Oury (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored on an error to make the lead 4-0. Picarillo knocked in her first run of the day on a single to left field to plate O'Neill.
The Dolphins cut the lead to two in the fifth after Katie Moos had a two RBI double with two outs and Taylor Milata knocked in Moos with a single up the middle. Mount Saint Vincent loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but relief pitcher
Christen Hansen (Cyress, Calif.) stranded the bases loaded with an infield popup and a line out to right field.
Almodovar finished the day 3-for-3 with a RBI and Lang was 3-for-4 with a run batted in.
Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.) added two hits for the Knights.
Bridget Bennett (Gardiner, N.Y.) earned the win for the Knights as she tossed 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs with six strikeouts. She moved to 5-3 on the season while Hansen picked up her first save of the season.
Moos was 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI while Abigail Laurendeau was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Dolphins. Hannah Thompson took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent as she threw 4.0 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits.
Mount Saint Vincent 7 - Mount Saint Mary 4 (Six Innings)
Neither team found the scoreboard until the fourth inning when the two teams combined for 10 runs in the inning. The Knights scored first after Lang led off with a single through the left side and
Alyssa Hernandez (Middletown, N.Y.) knocked in her on a fielder's choice. Moustouka drove in two runs with a double to right center, scoring Hernandez and
Erin McCann (East Haven, Conn.)
The Dolphins countered with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth as Laurendeau and Erin Patterson each had RBI singles while Sophia Herrera had a bases loaded walk. Milata singled home two runs with a single and Alanna Alioto-Reyes plated two runs on a RBI double down the right field line.
The Knights added a run in the top of the sixth when Hernandez scored on an error following a Moustouka single before the game was called due to darkness.
Moustouka finished 3-for-3 with two RBI while McCann added two hits. Hernandez finished with two runs scored. O'Neill took the loss for the Mount, allowing four runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work.Â
Milata and Alioto-Reyes finished with two RBI apiece while seven different players scored a run for Mount Saint Vincent. Kayla Pagano earned her second win of the season after throwing a complete game, allowing four runs (zero earned) and eight hits.
At 11-15 overall and 10-2 in Skyline play, Mount Saint Mary returns to action with a non-conference contest against Manhattanville on Tuesday. The doubleheader with the Valiants is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
