Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team picked up its fourth straight win and moved above the .500 mark in league play on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 9-0 win over visiting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The Mount dropped just six games in the contest the third and fifth singles positions posting sweeps in victory.
The Mount got off to a fast start in the contest with the top two doubles pairs easing to victories. The top duo of
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) and
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) improved their record on the season to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in league play with an 8-1 victory.
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) and
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) also had an impressive outing, posting an 8-0 win on their way to improving to 6-2 overall and 4-1 against league rivals.
The Knights kept the momentum going in the singles competition with Tiriolo and
Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) posting 6-0, 6-0 victories. Tiriolo improved to 10-0 on the season at the third position, while Ryan moved his singles mark to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league play at the firth slot.
McGorty pushed his record to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league play at the top singles flight with a 6-0, 6-2 win, with Terry completing a 6-0, 6-2 win at the second position to move his mark to 7-3 overall and 3-2 against conference opponents. Gallo finished off an impressive afternoon for the Knights with a 6-0, 6-1 fourth singles win that saw him move to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 8-2 overall on the season and to 3-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home Skyline Conference match with Farmingdale State on Tuesday. First serve with the Rams is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
