Baseball Set For Home Conference Sets Against St. Joseph’s-L.I., College of Mount Saint Vincent

Knights look to rebound off tough loss on Wednesday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team concludes its five game homestand with doubleheaders against St. Joseph's-L.I. and the College of Mount Saint Vincent this weekend. The twinbill with the Golden Eagles on Saturday is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m start while the doubleheader with the Dolphins is also scheduled for a noon start on Sunday.

At A Glance: The Knights suffered a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday against non-conference foe Manhattanville as the Mount dropped a 13-12 contest in 10 innings.

Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.) leads the Knights in batting average at .391 and has a team-high 27 hits as well as a team-high 17 runs scored. He is also 16-for-19 in stolen base attempts. Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) is hitting .377 for the Mount while being second in hits with 23.

John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) is hitting .385 on the season and is second in runs batted in with 11 and on-base percentage lead at .458. Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) is hitting .484 in 31 at-bats while Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) holds a .421 batting average in 19 at-bats. Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has a team-high 13 RBI and holds the lone homerun for the Mount.

Christian Spano (Mahopac, N.Y.) leads in innings pitched with 27.2 while holding a 5.20 earned run average while Sal Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) is second in innings pitched with 25.0 while holding a 2.88 ERA. Nick Zestanakis (Bayside, N.Y.) has logged 10.0 innings out of the bullpen and holds a 1.80 ERA.

The Knights hold a .931 fielding percentage and a 4.37 team ERA. The Mount holds a team batting average of .280 batting average this season and holds a .262 batting average against. As a team, the Knights are 59-70 in stolen base attempts.

Last Time Out: The Mount suffered a heartbreaking loss as Manhattanville staged a seven run comeback and then won the game in extra innings by a score of 13-12. Mirra was 5-for-6 on the day for the Knights as they slugged out 21 hits in the contest.

DiGiovanni took the loss in relief as he threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Anthony Collura (Franklin Square, N.Y.) started the contest and allowed one run and one hit over three innings of work.

Mirra finished with five hits, including three runs, one run batted in and three stolen bases while Tait finished 4-for-6 with a triple. Goodwin drove in three runs on the contest and Joe Stewart (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two triples.

A Look At St. Joseph's-L.I.: The Golden Eagles hold a 13-13 (5-7 Skyline) record after dropping a midweek contest to Ramapo 6-1 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.

St. Joseph's-L.I. has eight hitters with at least 20 at-bats that are hitting .300 or better on the season. Jesse Nakashian leads with a .392 batting average and a team-high 31 hits, including six doubles. Anthony Raucci is second in hits with 28 while Tyler Sanderson leads in RBI with 18 and runs scored with 20.

Anthony Papa leads in innings pitched for the Golden Eagles with 31.1 innings and holds a 3.16 earned run average. Tim Woodford has logged 29.0 innings and carries a 1.55 ERA into the weekend, along with a 3-1 record and 31 strikeouts.

As a team, the Golden Eagles are hitting .288 and hold an on-base percentage of .387. The pitching staff takes a 4.68 ERA into the weekend along with a .289 batting average against. Defensively, they have a .972 team fielding percentage.

Previewing the Dolphins: Mount Saint Vincent comes into the weekend at 11-12 overall and 6-6 in the Skyline. The Dolphins are scheduled to play Yeshiva on Friday and Albertus Magnus on Saturday before heading to Newburgh on Sunday.

Michael Grisanti leads the offensive attack with a .392 batting average, along with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs and 17 runs batted in. Jake Blinstrub is hitting .380 with 10 doubles, 17 RBI and a team-high 22 runs scored. Matt DiNorcia leads in RBI with 20.

Peter Sanderson is the leader in innings with 35.0, holding a 2.31 earned run average and a 3-1 record in nine appearances. Amir Nitkowski is 3-2 in seven appearances and has 30.2 innings pitched with a 2.64 ERA.

The Dolphins pitching staff holds a 5.13 ERA as well as a .310 batting average against. Offensively, Mount Saint Vincent is hitting .288 as a team and has a .391 on-base percentage. Defensively, the team holds a .941 fielding percentage.

What's Next: Mount Saint Mary hits the road for a midweek contest against Vassar on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
