Men’s Tennis Sweeps Sarah Lawrence, Evens Skyline Conference Record

Tiriolo moves to 9-0 in singles play

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team scored its third straight win on Wednesday night, blanking league rival Sarah Lawrence 9-0. Sophomore Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) remained unbeaten in singles play with his ninth win of the season.
 
Tiriolo improved his singles record at the third position to a perfect 9-0 on the season against the Gryphons after easing to a 6-2, 6-0 victory on Wednesday. The win improves his career singles record to 20-4, which includes a perfect 11-0 mark over two seasons at third singles.
 
Senior Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) moved his singles mark to 6-3 at the second slot on Wednesday with a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 win, while a trio of Knights scored their fifth wins of the year. Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) improved to 5-4 with a 6-2, 6-2 top flight victory, Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) moved to 5-2 with a 6-0, 6-0 fourth singles win and Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) improved to 5-4 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at the fifth position.
 
Freshman David Gonzalez (Middletown, N.Y.) got back into the win column on Wednesday and improved to 3-6 on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 sixth singles win against the Gryphons.
 
In doubles action, the Mount dropped just four games on its way to opening a 3-0 lead in the match. The top pair of McGorty and Tiriolo improved to 7-2 with an 8-1 win, while the third pairing of Ryan and Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) moved to 2-0 with an 8-1 third position win. Terry and Gallo moved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play with an 8-2 second doubles win on Wednesday.
 
Wednesday's triumph moves Mount Saint Mary to 7-2 overall and to an even 2-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home match against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday. First serve with the Bears is set for 12:00 p.m.
