Men’s Lacrosse Ready For Road Non-Conference Games At Vassar, Albright

Knights enter week at 1-1 overall

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team returns to action this week with a pair of non-conference road games at Vassar and at Albright. The midweek tilt with the Brewers is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, while the weekend contest in Reading, Pa. is set for 4:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: The Mount has split its first two tilts of the season, topping Bard 14-5 in the season opener on February 23 before dropping a tight 12-8 decision on the road at Western Connecticut on February 26.
 
The Knights have had 10 different players score a goal through the first two games of the season, led by four from Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.). Junior Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.), Anthony Kearns (Clinton, N.J.), Vinny Vaccaro (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Thomas Bahmer III (East Brunswick, N.J.) all check in with three tallies for the Knights.
 
Mariaio paces the Mount in assists with five and holds the team lead in points with eight through two games, while Holland and Kearns are tied for second on the team in points with five apiece.
 
Sophomore A.J. Bolger (West Milford, N.J.) leads the way with seven groundballs for the Mount with Kearns and senior Peter Beidl (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each scooping five. Matthew Martino (Watertown, Conn.) leads the way with six caused turnovers, while Marco Spagnuolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) has won a team-high 21 face-offs.
 
In goal, junior Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) has started each of the season's first two games and holds an 8.50 goals against average and a .528 save percentage. Laikin has made 19 saves in 120 minutes and has picked up a pair of groundballs.
 
Scouting Vassar: The Brewers enter Tuesday's contest at 1-2 and are coming off a 17-7 road loss at Swarthmore on March 2. Vassar was outshot 44-27 in the game, but tallied three times with the man advantage.
 
Vassar also has 10 different goals scorers heading into the week, with Michael Mullen leading the way with six tallies. Connor Deehan paces the Brewers with four assists on the young season, while Mullen is tops on the team with nine points.
 
Matthew Lowery and Michael Killion sit atop the team leaderboard in groundballs with eight apiece, with Stefan Fleps causing a team-high six turnovers. Cameron Erdman has won a team-high 18 face-offs on the season, with Lowery winning 13 of his 16 attempts.
 
In goal, Erik Mikelinich has seen the bulk of action, playing 143:30 of a possible 180:00. He holds an 11.71 goals against average and a .451 save percentage. He has stopped 23 shots on the season and has picked up seven groundballs.
 
Previewing Albright: The Lions enter the week winless in three outings heading into a Wednesday tilt with Immaculata. Albright is coming off a 12-5 loss to Shenandoah on February 27 and has also suffered a 19-10 loss to Misericrodia and a 13-3 defeat in the season opener to Swarthmore.
 
Ethan Gain paces the scoring attack with five markers and seven points through three games and joins Alex McKendry atop the team leaderboard in assists with two.
 
Ryan Janowski leads the way in both groundballs with 11 and caused turnovers with seven, while Noah Marchiafava has won a team-high 22 face-offs.
 
Conor Scafidi has played each of the team's 180 minutes in goal thus far and holds a .500 save percentage and a 14.67 goals against average. He has stopped 44 opponent shots and has scooped six groundballs.
 
What's Next: After this week's road contests, the Mount opens a four game home stand on March 12 when it plays host to Union at 4:00 p.m.
