Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team dropped its sixth consecutive contest on Saturday as Gwynedd Mercy defeated the Knights 14-5. Freshman
Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored two goals for the Knights in the defeat.
The Griffins got off to a hot start as they scored the first 12 goals of the contest and took a 12-0 lead into the halftime intermission. Victoria Braeunle, Victoria Mollitor, and Samantha Brown scored 10 of the 12 goals in the first half for Gwynedd Mercy.
The Knights found the back of the net for the first time at the 24:12 mark of the second half when
Providence Gilkey (Shirley, N.Y.) scored on a free position goal for her fifth goal of the season. Shalvey scored her first goal of the game shortly after the Gilkey goal for her second of the season.
Shalvey wired the net for her second goal of the day at the 10:53 mark of the half.
Grace Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season with 4:06 remaining in the contest and
Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored the last goal for the Knights for her fifth goal of the season.
Shalvey added three groundballs and two caused turnovers on the day while
Kathryn McQuillan (Baldwin, N.Y.) also picked up three groundballs. Seven players finished with a caused turnover on the contest for the Knights. Lindsay led the Knights in draw controls with five.
Mollitor and Brown each had four goals on the contest while Brown added two assists for the Griffins. Brown chipped in four groundballs, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. Braeunle finished with three goals and three draw controls.
Gwynedd Mercy finished the contest with a 30-13 shots advantage while holding an 18-13 advantage in groundballs. The Griffins also won 13 draw controls compared to the Knights seven. Gwynedd Mercy also forced 30 turnovers in the game.
At 0-6 overall, the Knights return home for a Skyline Conference contest against Old Westbury on Wednesday. First draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field
