Glenside, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team dropped its second straight contest and fourth in its last five outings on Wednesday following a 19-7 road loss at Arcadia.
Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Vinny Vaccaro (Floral Park, N.Y.) each scored twice for the Knights in the contest.
A tightly contest first half saw Arcadia carry a 6-4 lead into halftime. The Mount scored twice in the first period and held a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes, but Arcadia responded with five of the seven tallies in the second stanza to carry the two goal lead into halftime. Maraio scored in each of the first two periods for the Knights.
Arcadia wrapped up the first half with a 25-11 advantage in shots, including a 14-4 edge in second period. Arcadia won nine of the 12 face-offs contested prior to halftime and finished the first half with a 27-22 edge in groundballs.
Coming out of halftime, Arcadia scored seven times in the third period to race out to a 13-5 advantage through three quarters. The Knights were outshot 16-5 in the third stanza with
Thomas Bahmer III (East Brunswick, N.J.) scoring the Mount's lone goal of the period.
Arcadia continued its hot scoring in the fourth with six more goals on 15 shots. Vaccaro scored both of his goal in the fourth period for the Knights, tallying at the 12:56 mark and then again with just over three minutes left in regulation time.
Maraio scored his 10
th and 11
th goals of the season for the Mount and added his team leading 12
th assist of the season. He moved his team lead in points to 23 and added a groundball. Vaccaro scored for the fifth and sixth times on the season with Bahmer and
Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) adding other goals for the Mount.
Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up four groundballs for the Knights and was one of four Mount Saint Mary players to cause two turnovers in the game.
Dennis Dowd (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) won four face-offs for the Mount, while
Marco Spagnuolo (Staten Island, N.Y.) won three and collected two groundballs.
Arcadia was led by four goals and four assists from Clo Muscara. Josh Keitz collected nine groundballs, while Conor Cunningham went 17-for-21 in face-offs and added six groundballs.
In goal,
Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) matched his career-high with 14 saves and collected four groundballs. Grant Palmer picked up the win for Arcadia with five stops in just over 34 minutes of work.
For the game, Arcadia finished with the advantage in shots 56-26, shots on goal 34-15, face-offs 23-7 and groundballs 54-38. Arcadia finished 3-for-8 with the man advantage and 13-for-19 in clears, while the Knights were scoreless in four man-up chances and went 13-for-27 in clears.
At 3-6 overall on the season, The Mount returns home for a non-conference game against Wilkes on Saturday. Face-off with the Colonels is set for 1:00 p.m.
