Softball Suffers Losses To McDaniel, Bethel

Lang totals three hits over two games

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team continued its Spring Break trip to Florida on Monday, suffering a 9-1 loss to McDaniel and a 7-0 loss to Bethel. Junior Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) totaled three hits over the two games for the Knights and drove in the team's lone run of the day.
 
McDaniel 9 – Mount Saint Mary 1
The Knights got off to a good start against the Green Terror, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third frame. After Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice and stole second, Lang delivered a two-out single to center to give the Mount the early one run advantage.
 
McDaniel answered in the fourth with a single run to even the score at 1-1 and went on to plate eight runs in the fifth to pull away for the victory. Julia Dimmick scored the tying run on an infield groundball before the Green Terror strung together six hits in the fifth. Alicia Wagner delivered the eventual game winning run in the big fifth frame with a double to right center field.
 
Mount Saint Mary was outhit in the game 12-4, with Lang producing half of the team's hits. She finished up 2-for-3 with an RBI. Alyssa Hernandez (Middletown, N.Y.) and Jessica Ehret (Broad Channel, N.Y.) recorded the other hits for the Mount.
 
McDaniel featured four players with two hits in the contest, with Meganh Horset going 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Michaela Persinger doubled twice for the Green Terror, scoring once and driving in another.
 
Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif.) suffered the loss in relief for the Mount after allowing six earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of work. Krista Waller allowed just one earned run in 4.0 innings for McDaniel, with Fiona Johnson earning the win in relief with a scoreless inning of work.
 
Bethel 7 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The Knights were shutout for the third time in four games in Monday's second contest and were outhit 11-2 by the Royals. Bethel received all the scoring it would need in the second when a sacrifice fly from Maddie Fauth delivered the eventual game winning run.
 
Leading 1-0, the Royals added four runs in the third inning and single runs in the fourth and sixth to close out the scoring in the game. Cortney Honanson drove in a pair of runs with a double in the three-run third and Katie Stewart doubled home a run in the sixth to finish off the scoring for the Royals.
 
The Knights were limited to just a pair of singles against the Royals with Lang and Hernandez producing the base hits. Lang reached a second time in the game for the Mount after drawing the team's only walk of the contest.
 
The Royals had four players with two hits in the game, with Mariah Uphoff going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Hokanson finished off a strong day by going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
Freshman MacKenzie Hymes (Middletown, Del.) took the loss in the circle for the Mount, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings. Calli Maki scored the win for Bethel, striking out 11 against only one walk in the complete game victory.
 
At 0-6 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will continue its trip to Florida on Tuesday with games against UW-Superior (9:45 a.m.) and Springfield (2:00 p.m.).
