Women’s Lacrosse Falls On The Road At Wellesley

Trio of Knights score two goals

Wellesley, Mass. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight decision to open the season on Saturday, falling on the road at Wellesley by a score of 22-7. Three Knights finished the game with two goals against The Blue.
 
Mount Saint Mary saw Wellesley open the scoring with two straight goals, but a Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) marker at the 22:29 mark of the opening stanza brought the Knights to within 2-1.

The Blue went on to score the next two goals and five of the next seven to open a 7-3 lead with just over 17 minutes left before halftime. The Mount received goals from Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) and Condron over the run to keep the Mount within striking distance in the middle stages of the first half.
 
Prividence Gilkey (Wantagh, N.Y.) potted her second goal of the season at the 13:04 mark of the first half to being the Knights to within 7-4, but The Blue finished the half with four of the final five goals to carry an 11-5 lead into the intermission.
 
Wellesley finished the first half with a 25-6 advantage in shots and controlled draws 13-4. The Blue wrapped up the opening 30 minutes a perfect 6-for-6 in clears and with a slim 16-12 edge in groundballs.
 
Coming out of halftime, Wellesley potted the first four goals of the second half and after Gilkey's second of the game at the 20:06 mark of the second, The Blue rattled off the next seven goals to open a 22-6 lead with 4:21 left in the contest. Alyssa DiMare (Staten Island, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the game with her second of the day in the final 71 seconds of action.
 
DiMare, Gilkey and Condron all finished with two goals for the Knights, with Shalvey scoring for the first time in her career. Shalvey joined Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Kerrigan Shaw (Prospect, Conn.) with two draw controls each, with Hope Blanc (Wantagh, N.Y.) causing two turnovers and picking up five groundballs.
 
Wellesley was paced by 10 goals and 12 points from Dacia Persky, while Lena Engbretson assisted on eight goals. Kat Gallison won six draw controls to lead The Blue, with Hannah Maisano causing four turnovers and picking up five groundballs.
 
Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) finished the day with a career-high 15 saves in goal in nearly 53 minutes of work, adding a pair of groundballs. Lorna Li earned the win for The Blue with three stops on the day.
 
Overall, Wellesley finished the game with the edge in shots 49-14, shots on goal 37-10, groundballs 30-17 and draw controls 20-11. The Mount finished the day 7-for-20 in clears, with The Blue going 9-for-12.
 
At 0-4 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Wednesday when it heads across the river to take on local foe Vassar. Opening Draw with the Brewers is set for 1:00 p.m.
