Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team hits the road for the first time this season as it begins a 10 game road trip against Manhattanville on Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Purchase College.
At A Glance: The Knights dropped to 2-2 on the season following two losses against SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) leads the team with a .417 batting average and sophomore
Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.) is hitting .400 on the season. Mirra is also 5-for-5 this season in stolen base attempts.
Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Falls, N.Y.) leads in extra base hits with two doubles on the year and
Matt Barbieri leads in runs batted in with three.
Senior
Christian Spano leads in innings pitched with seven and one-thirds innings and holds a 3.68 earned run average. Barbieri has a 3.18 ERA in 5.2 innings and
Sal Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) carries a 1.69 ERA in five and one-thirds innings.
The Knights hold a .960 fielding percentage and a 4.65 team ERA. The Mount has struggled to a .193 batting average early this season and have allowed a .264 batting average against.
A Look At Manhattanville: The Valiants have begun the season at 3-2 this season following a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC in early March as well as a 8-2 victory over New Rochelle on Tuesday.
Peter Iannarilli and Hathaway Roper lead in batting average with .474, Luke Scoggins is hitting .409, and Jack Matero has a .381 average on the year. As a team, Manhattanville is hitting .339 as a team in four games.
Justin Proteau leads the team with a .000 earned run average in five innings pitched while Richie Vetrano and Christian Cefaloni each have a 3.86 ERA in four and two-thirds innings. As a team, the Valiants hold a 7.71 ERA this season. Defensively, Manhattanville holds a .979 fielding percentage.
What's Next: The Mount will travel to Port Charlotte, Fla. to take part in the Snowbird Baseball Classic next week. The Knights will play five games in Florida, starting on March 16 against and concluding the trip on March 19. Mount Saint Mary will take on Ohio Wesleyan, Vassar, Denison and SUNY Cobleskill twice during the Florida trip.
