Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team returns to action for the first time since December 3 when it travels to Lehman on Wednesday and then returns home to host Cobleskill in its final game before the Holiday Break on Friday. The Mount and Lightning will square-off at 7:00 p.m. with the Knights and Fighting Tigers set for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off on Friday evening.
At A Glance: The Knights picked up their first win of the season on December 3 when it took down Hartwick 67-60 at the Kaplan Center. The win improves the Knights' record to 1-4 through the first five contests of the season.
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) leads the scoring attack for the Mount with an even 20.0 points per game and he is joined in double-figures by junior
Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) who is good for 12.0 points per outing. Morton is converting at 41.2-percent from the floor overall while Francis is shooting 43.6-percent from three-point range and leads the team with 5.0 assists per contest.
Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) is contributing just over seven points per outing for the Knights and leads the team with 1.2 blocks per night, while
Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) is chipping in 6.6 points per game, shooting an even 50.0-percent from the field, to go along with a team-high 4.4 rebounds per game.
Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.) is in the midst of a steady all-around season for the Knights, posting 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per outing.
Mount Saint Mary is averaging 62.6 points per game through five contests and is shooting 38.7-percent from the floor overall, 29.5-percent from three-point range and 64.7-percent from the free-throw line. The Knights are hauling in just shy of 33 rebounds per game and are being out rebounded by their opponents by better than eight caroms per contest.
Last Time Out: The Knights found the win column for the first time this season with a seven-point triumph over Hartwick on December 3. A balanced scoring attack featured three players with at least 10 points in the game.
Francis led the way with 18 points to go along with five assists, while Fox produced a season-high 16 points, adding four rebounds. Morton chipped in 10 points in the victory and joined Francis with a team-high five assists.
The Knights shot 43.9-percent overall in the game, hitting eight three-pointers, and limited Hartwick to a 34.8-percenet effort from the floor and a 5-for-27 showing from three-point range.
A Look At Lehman: The Lightning enter Wednesday's contest at 2-5 overall and are coming off a convincing 91-64 win over York (N.Y.) on December 6. Lehman shot 47.8-percent overall for the game and featured five players in double-figures, led by 20 points from Mo Idrissou.
Gian Batista leads two players scoring in double-figures for the Lightning, averaging 16.9 points per game to go along with 3.6 helpers per night. Isaiah Geathers is shooting 52.3-percent from the floor through seven contests and is scoring just shy of 16 points per game for Lehman.
Idrissou leads the team with 12 three-point field goals to date and is shooting nearly 43-percent from bonus distance, while Alex Hanson is tops on the glass with 7.0 rebounds per outing and Will Feldman is good for an even 4.0 assists per game.
Lehman is good for nearly 76 points per game and is shooting 43.1-percent as a team to date. The Lightning outrebound their opponents by three caroms per game and are scoring nearly 20 points per contest on opponent turnovers.
Recent History: The two teams have not met since the 2008-09 season with the Mount dropping an 88-70 road decision on January 12, 2009.
Scouting Cobleskill: The Fighting Tigers come to town on Friday sporting a 5-1 overall record and have won their last two outings, topping Bryant and Stratton 96-73 on November 26 and Penn College 100-77 on December 7.
Cobleskill features a balanced scoring attack that has four players averaging at least 13 points per game. Antwan Claxton leads the way with 16.7 points per night to go along with 8.5 rebounds per game. Claxton is converting at 56.3-percent from the floor overall and 57.7-percent from three-point range.
Khayri Harris checks in with 14.5 points per game for the Tigers with Daniel Owens good for 14.2 points per game while shooting 54.2-percent from the floor. James Conteh rounds out the quartet in double-figures with 13.8 points per game.
Cobleskill is averaging 87.2 points per game and is outscoring its opponents by better than 15 points through the season's first six contests. The Fighting Tigers shoot 48.4-percent as a unit and convert at nearly 37-percent from three-point range.
What's Next: The Knights close out the 2019 portion of the schedule on December 30 when they welcome Marywood to the Kaplan Center for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
