Women’s Soccer Edged By Manhattanville In Skyline Semifinal

Ellsworth totals four shots

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team suffered a hard fought 1-0 loss to fourth seed Manhattanville in the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship Semifinal Round on Wednesday at Kaplan Field. Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) led the Mount with four shots in the game.
 
For the second time this season the two teams played a scoreless first half with each team recording four first half shots. Mount Saint Mary went to the break with a slim 2-1 advantage in corner kicks with Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) making one stop in goal over the opening 45 minutes.
 
Coming out of halftime, Mount Saint Mary recorded three attempts in the first six minutes of action, but did not post its first shot on frame until Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) had a shot turned away in the 72nd minute.
 
Manhattanville struck with the only goal of the game just under two minutes after the Bornstad attempt off a free kick just inside of midfield. Dani Fanning feed the free kick through the box to the far post where Ashley Hayes deposited her sixth goal of the season at 73:55 mark for the only scoring of the day.
 
Mount Saint Mary turned up the pressure again after falling behind, but was unable to find the equalizer. Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) hit the post from inside the box late in regulation time and Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) had a shot sail wide with just shy of seven minutes left to play.
 
Mount Saint Mary outshot Manhattanville 8-2 after halftime and closed the game with a 12-6 edge in shots. Ellsworth led the way with four attempts with Rivera and Cannella each posting two shots. Shots on goal in the game went to Manhattanville 2-1 while corner kicks went the Mount's way 7-2.
 
Scott and Alexa Pyatsky each finished the day with a single save in goal for their respective teams with Pyatsky earning the shutout.

Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 9-10-1 overall on the season.
