Newburgh, N.Y. – The sixth seeded Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team will travel to third seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent Tuesday night for a First Round matchup in the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship. At A Glance: After dropping eight straight contests and falling to 7-16 overall and 2-5 in Skyline Conference play, the Mount ripped of wins in its final six regular season contests to enter the conference championship at 13-16, clinching the final seed in the league's postseason tournament.
Freshman
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) has put together a stellar rookie campaign for the Knights, leading the team in kills with 334 and service aces with 68. Riddle also enters Tuesday's tilt second on the squad with 262 digs and with 30 total blocks.
Riddle is averaging 3.31 kills per set for the Knights and is hitting .211 on the season. She adds 2.59 digs per frame entering Tuesday and has been named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week twice.
Senior
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) leads the Mount at the net with 57 total blocks and checks in third on the team in kills with 160 and fifth on the squad in service aces with 28. Junior
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) is second on the team with 161 kills, adding 135 digs and 14 total blocks.
Senior
Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) is the team's top distributor in 2019, handing out a team-high 427 assists, good for 5.62 helpers per set. She also ranks third on the team in service aces with 37 through the regular season. Freshman
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) has handed out 303 assists to date for the Knights, averaging just shy of four assists per stanza.
Sophomore
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) has anchored the back row for the Knights throughout the 2019 season, lifting a team-high 404 digs, averaging 4.16 per stanza. Barbara has also contributed on offense in 2019, ranking second on the team in service aces with 49.
Junior
Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) ranks among the team leader in nearly every category, sitting third on the team in kills (97), fourth in assists (19), fourth in service aces (36), fourth in digs (157) and tied for fourth in total blocks (14).
Danielle Guarasci (Plainview, N.Y.) finds herself fifth in kills (57) and third in total blocks (23).
Last Time Out: The Knights closed the regular season with their sixth straight win, topping Old Westbury 25-15, 25-13, 25-12. Riddle led the offensive attack with 14 kills, hitting .370, while Kralik put away 12 winners and hit a blistering .556.
Mazzurco and Cammarata combined for 30 assists, with Mazzurco leading the way with 17 to go along with two aces and a pair of digs. Barbara and
Klaire Wall (Point Pleasant, N.J.) equaled the team-high with nine digs with Barbara posting a pair of aces.
For the match, Mount Saint Mary finished with the advantage in kills 38-18 and service aces 7-2, while the Panthers held a 3-1 edge in total team blocks.
Scouting The Dolphins: Mount Saint Vincent also finished up the regular season on a six game run and completed the conference schedule with a 9-2 record to go along with a 19-9 overall mark. The Dolphins earned the third seed in the conference championship, with their only league losses coming to top seed Manhattanville and second seed USMMA.
Mount Saint Vincent features five players with at least 100 kills on the season led by 297 winners from Tara Maloney and 248 kills from Samantha Schroeder. Maloney adds 258 digs for the Dolphins and 26 service aces, while Schroeder has lifted 201 digs and totaled 25 aces.
Alexandra Rio paces Mount Saint Vincent with 273 digs, averaging better than three per set, with Madison Gale handing out 773 assists, good for 8.4 per frame. Gale also leads the way with 44 service aces, while Dez Brown controls the net with a team-high 69 total blocks.
League Leaders: Both teams enter the conference championship with players all across the league leaderboard. For the Knights, Riddle ranks fourth in kills per set (3.31) and fifth in service aces per set (0.67), while Burke sits third in total blocks per set (0.66). Barbara enters the week fourth in the league in digs per set (4.16), while Mazzurco is eighth in helpers per frame (5.62).
Brown sits atop the league leaderboard for Dolphins in both attack percentage (.408) and total blocks per set (0.85), while Maloney ranks fifth in kills per stanza (3.26). Gale enters Tuesday's First Round match third in the conference in assists per set (8.40) with Lindsey DeBoer checking in third in aces per set (0.72). Alexandra Rio finds herself ranked 10
th in the conference in digs per set for the Dolphins (3.37).
Regular Season Meeting: The Knights traveled to Riverdale on September 23 and dropped a four set decision to the Dolphins by scores of 15-25, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25.
Riddle led the Mount's offensive attack with 17 kills, hitting an efficient .350, to go along with eight digs, four blocks and an assist. Cammarata posted a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs, while Barbara led the team with 14 digs and joined Hydo and Burke with three aces.
Maloney led all players on the night with 19 kills, hitting .319, and finished off a double-double with 13 digs. Gale handed out a match-high 36 assists and completed a double-double with 12 digs.
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in kills 48-35 and total team blocks 7-6, while the Mount posted a slim 13-10 advantage in service aces.
Recent History: The two sides have met 17 times since the start of the 2007 season, with Mount Saint Mary holding an 11-6 record. Mount Saint Vincent, though, has won five of the last seven meetings, including a 3-1 win in the Skyline Conference Championship Final in 2015.
Recent Skyline Conference Championship History: 2019 marks the 13
th straight season the Knights have qualified for the Skyline Conference Championship. The Knights won the league title in 2012 and advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship Final in both 2014 and 2015.
What's Next: The winner of the Mount's match will advance on to play second seed USMMA in the semifinal round on November 7, while the winner of the Farmingdale State and St. Joseph's-L.I. First Round match will travel to top seed Manhattanville.
