Women's Basketball Looks For Third Straight Win Against Hunter

Knights coming off back to back Skyline victories

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday evening after two straight victories to take on non-conference foe Hunter at the Kaplan Center. Tip-off with the Hawks is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.

At A Glance: The Knights enter Tuesday's contest 3-1 overall and 3-0 in Skyline Conference play after defeating conference foes Yeshiva 101-54 and Manhattanville 65-49 last week.

Mount Saint Mary's balanced scoring attack is led by junior Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) who is averaging 16.5 points per contest and has added 5.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) is averaging a double-double in the early season as she has scored 12.5 points and grabbed 10.5 rebounds per outing.

Senior Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) has added 13.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per contest while sophomore Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) is the fourth player with double figure points with 10.8 per game.

Desrats is the team leader in assists with 14 while sophomore Toriana Tabasco is averaging eight points, just under seven rebounds per outing and has added 12 assists. Keenan leads the squad in steals with 10 while three players have tallied a block so far this season.

The Mount has shot 40.9 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from the three-point stripe while scoring 72.5 points per contest. The Knights have limited teams to 33.2 percent shooting and 25 percent from three point range while holding teams to just 53.5 points per game.

Last Time Out: Mount Saint Mary recorded its third straight Skyline victory on Saturday afternoon as the Knights defeated Manhattanville 65-49 in the home opener on Saturday. Keenan recorded her second double-double of the season as she led the Mount with 14 points.

Mount Saint Mary held a 12-10 lead after the end of the first quarter following a Keenan three pointer with 19 seconds left. Following an Ali Maekele jumper that cut the Knights lead down to one in the second quarter, the Mount countered with a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes, capped by eight points off the bench from sophomore Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.).

Mount Saint Mary held an 11 point lead at the halftime intermission, as Keenan led the way with nine points and seven rebounds while Tabasco added four points, four assists and six rebounds.

The Mount finished the half outshooting Manhattanville 36.7 percent to 30.8 percent and made five threes compared to Manhattanville's zero. The Knights outrebounded the Valiants 23-15 as Manhattanville held a 13-11 edge in turnovers forced.
 
Manhattanville cut the lead to nine points over the first two minutes of the third quarter before the Knights answered with a quick 7-0 run to push the lead to 16 points with 3:09 remaining in the quarter. Mount Saint Mary extended its lead to a game-high 21 points on a Desrats triple with 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Over the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, the Valiants whittled the lead away to 14 points before a three-pointer was made from Keenan. Mount Saint Mary's lead never fell below 16 points over the final five minutes as the Mount earned a 16 point victory.
 
The Knights shot 40 percent from the field in the second half and knocked down five triples. Manhattanville shot 35.7 percent in the second half and made just one three pointer.

Keenan led the Knights with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Desrats added 12 points and two assists. Bojka chipped in 10 points and six rebounds with Tabasco adding six points, five assists and 10 rebounds. The Mount finished the contest shooting 38.3 percent from the field and knocked down 10 threes. The Knights limited the Valiants to just one three-point field goal in the game and converted 16 points off turnovers.

Scouting Hunter: The Hawks enter Tuesday's matchup with a 1-3 overall record after losing to the College of New Jersey 73-49 on Friday evening.

Hunter is led by senior guard/forward Janine Conway who is averaging 21 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per contest. She also leads the team in steals with 16 on the early season. Theresa Leung adds 10.8 points per game while Phoebe Valenton has chipped in 10.5 points per outing.

Leung leads the team in assists with 14 while Kristina Krslovic has five blocks on the season. Hunter is being outscored by 13.5 points per game and has averaged 60 points per game. The Hawks are shooting 34.1 percent from the field and 24.8 percent from the three-point stripe. Opponents have shot 38.1 percent from the field and 27.7 percent from beyond the arc.

What's Next: Following Thanksgiving break, the Knights return to Skyline Conference play when they travel to Kings Point to take on reigning Skyline champion United States Merchant Marine Academy. Tip-off with the Mariners is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
