Women's Basketball Continues Skyline Slate With Yeshiva, Manhattanville

Knights will play its home opener on Saturday against the Valiants

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team returns to Skyline Conference play this week as the Knights travel to Yeshiva on Thursday evening before playing its home opener against Manhattanville on Saturday. Tip-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. while the contest with the Valiants at the Kaplan Center is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: The Knights have begun the 2019-20 campaign with a 1-1 record after defeating conference foe Sarah Lawrence and then dropping a non league contest to Misericordia on Saturday.
 
Reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) has shot .727 (16-for-22) from the field en route to two-game averages of 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing to lead the Knights.
 
Senior Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) has added 13 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per contest while sophomore Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) has chipped in seven points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
 
Sophomore Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) leads the team in assists with nine in the early going as Pace has seven helpers. Keenan leads in steals with six as both Bojka and Keenan have a blocked shot on the season.
 
The Mount has shot 41.9 percent from the field and 27.5 percent from the three-point stripe. The Knights have limited teams to 31.8 percent shooting and 27.3 percent from three. Mount Saint Mary has averaged 70.5 points per game and has allowed just 55.5 points per outing.
 
Scouting Yeshiva: The Maccabees have started the season 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Skyline play after suffering a 96-42 loss at the hands of Manhattanville on Tuesday.
 
Tehilla Teigman leads Yeshiva as she is averaging a double-double with 16.7 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per outing. Yuval Nitzen has added 10.3 points per contest and Jessie Orgal is contributing 10 points per game off the bench.
 
Nitzan leads the Maccabees in assists with 12 while Teigman also leads in steals with nine. Lindsay Brandwein is the team leads in blocked shots with four.
 
Yeshiva is averaging just 59 points per contest and is allowing just over 74 points per game. The Maccabees have shot 32.5 percent from the field and just 25.4 percent from the three-point line. Defensively, Yeshiva has allowed teams to shoot 37.4 percent and 28.3 percent from the three-point stripe.
 
Analyzing Manhattanville: The Valiants have opened the season 2-0 with lopsided victories over Wells College and Yeshiva.
 
Sarah Coutu leads the Valiants with 15.5 points per game as Spencer Shore, Madison Fields and Faith Johnson-Desilvia have each chipped in at least 10 points per contest. Amanda Pemberton leads Manhattanville with nine rebounds per contest as five other players have tallied four or more rebounds per game.
 
Ali Mikaele leads the team in assists with seven as 15 total players have tallied a helper for the Valiants. Coutu leads in steals with eight as Mikaele has tallied six steals. Pemberton and Fields have each tallied two blocks for Manhattanville.
 
The Valiants have averaged 93.0 points per game and has shot 48.4 percent from the field as well as 34.7 percent from the three-point arc. Defensively, Manhattanville has allowed just 37 points per game and has limited teams to 25.9 percent shooting and 30.0 percent from the three-point line.
 
What's Next: The Knights will play its second straight home game on Tuesday evening when the Knights welcome non-conference foe Hunter to Newburgh. Tip-off with the Hawks is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
