Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team will put its four game winning streak on the line starting Tuesday when it travels to Purchase and the Knights will continue the conference slate Thursday with a home game against Farmingdale State. Kick-off on Tuesday is set for 7:00 p.m. while the Knights and Rams are scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off on Thursday.
At A Glance: The Knights are in the midst of a season-high four game winning streak and stand at 6-8 overall and a perfect 6-0 against Skyline Conference rivals following a 3-0 win over Manhattanville Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) tallied her third hat trick of the season in the win on Saturday and pushed her team-high in goals to 15 and her team-high in points to 32. Cannella has scored multiple goals in three straight games and scored the deciding goal in each of the Mount's wins over the current four game run.
Junior
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) checks in second on the team in both goals and points with four and nine, respectively, while five players have found the back of the net three times for the Knights.
Haley Murphy (Massapequa, N.Y.) begins the week with eight points, while
Lauren Engel (Red Hook, N.Y.) and
Maeve Ward (Warwick, N.Y.) each have seven heading into Tuesday's tilt.
Junior
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) leads five players with at least a pair of assists on the season with five, with Cannella, Murphy,
Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.), and
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) each helping on a pair of tallies.
In goal,
Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) has made 12 starts for the Knights and played 1080:00 of a possible 1260:00. She has recorded five shutouts entering Tuesday and holds a goals against average of 1.75 and a save percentage of .687 while stopping 46 opponent shots.
Last Time Out: Cannella potted three second half goals and Scott made a trio of saves as the Mount won for the fourth straight outing with a 3-0 home win over Manhattanville on Saturday.
Cannella led the Mount with five shots on the day and improved her team lead in goals to 15 and points to 32, with Alex Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) getting off three attempts.
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.),
Haley Murphy (Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Allie Salamone (Sound Beach, N.Y.) each all finished with one shot for the Knights.
Scott recorded her fifth shutout of the season, recording a trio of saves in the win.
Skyline Accolades: The Mount picked up two Skyline Conference weekly awards on Monday with Cannella collecting her second Offensive Player of the Week honor in the last three weeks and Scott earning conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Previewing Purchase: The Panthers enter Tuesday's contest at 7-4 overall and with an even 3-3 mark against conference rivals. Purchase has won three of its last four contests, including a 5-2 win over Maritime on Saturday.
Rebecca Colgan leads the Purchase scoring attack with 20 tallies on the season, adding five assists for a team-high 45 points. Brett Robison is tied with Colgan for the team lead in assists with five and has added six goals for 17 points to date.
In goal, Amber Yarter has started 10 contests for the Panthers and stopped 66 shots. She holds a .625 save percentage and a 3.00 goals against average to go along with a trio of clean sheets.
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams, who were picked as the preseason favorite in the Skyline Conference, enter a Tuesday night affair with the College of Mount Saint Vincent with an 8-5-2 overall record and an unblemished 5-0 mark in league play. The Rams are currently ranked sixth in the East Region according to the United Soccer Coaches poll released Tuesday morning.
Julissa Martinez leads the offensive attack for Farmingdale State with five goals and 11 points, while Alexandra Johnson and Brittany Starzee have each scored three times. Celina Schenck paces the squad with four assists and enters the week with eight points for the Rams.
The Rams stifling defense has allowed just 11 goals in 15 games and has produced 10 shutouts. Daniella Ford has allowed only eight goals to date and leads the Skyline Conference with an .875 save percentage and a 0.63 goals against average.
Recent History: The Rams and Knights have met 20 times since the start of the 2007 season with Farmingdale State holding a 13-5-2 record. The Rams topped the Mount in the Skyline Conference Championship Final from 2010-14, 2016 and 2017 and advanced past the Knights on penalty kicks following a scoreless draw in 2018. Over the last five six meetings, the Rams hold a 4-1-1 record.
