Men's Soccer Begins Busy Week With USMMA, Purchase

Knights look to extend six game winning streak

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team begins a three game homestand as the Knights play host to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday and Purchase on Thursday. Both contests are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: The Knights enter Tuesday's contest as winners of six straight after Farmingdale State on the road 3-1 on October 15. The Mount is 10-4-1 overall this season and 7-0-1 in Skyline action.
 
Sophomore Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) continues to lead the Knights and the Skyline Conference in goals with 11 and points with 25. Senior Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) is second on the team in points with 21 as he and sophomore Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) have each tallied nine goals this season.
 
Freshman Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) and junior Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) hold the team standard in assists with five as 12 total players have registered an assist for the Mount.
 
Junior Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has started 14 of the 15 games for Mount Saint Mary and he is third in the conference in goals against average at 1.29. He has made 62 saves this season and leads the conference in save percentage at .785.
 
Last Time Out: Doyle picked up his conference leading 11th goal of the season and Mesoraca picked up two assists as the Mount won its sixth straight contest in a 3-1 road victory over Farmingdale State on Tuesday evening.
 
At the 16:42 mark of the first half, Mesoraca played a long ball into the box as Doyle's head found it for his conference and team leading 11th goal of the season. Then after a Rapp save in the 21st minute, Mesoraca played another ball into the box off a free kick and Dolan was left alone as he headed the ball into the top left corner. His ninth goal of the season came at the 26:02 mark of the first half.
 
Wyant increased the Knights lead to three after halftime as he found the back of the net in the 65th minute. His ninth goal of the season was scored at the 64:36 mark of the second half. Farmingdale's lone goal came in the 83rd minute when Chris Schmidt scored off a feed from Robert Anastasio.
 
The Mount finished the game outshot 17-13 in shots, including 8-7 in shots on goal after outshooting Farmingdale 6-5 in the first half. The Rams had the only two corner kicks of the game, both of which came in the first 45 minutes.
Doyle led the Knights in shots with three as both Bravo and Wyant each registed two shots on the evening. Mesoraca's two assists push him into a tie for the team lead in assists with five for the year. Rapp earned the win in goal on Tuesday night as he made seven saves, including five in the second half.
 
Scouting United States Merchant Marine Academy: The Mariners enter tonight's contest at 9-5-1 overall and 6-2-1 in Skyline Conference play after dropping a 1-0 decision in double overtime to Manhattanville on Saturday.
 
Alex Madonna and Nick Roros lead USMMA in goals scored with five apiece and Zach Lysakowski is second in goals with four. Matt McCurnin is the team leader in assists with four as Lysakowski has pitched in three helpers.
 
Matthew Milner has played in 14 of the 15 games for the Mariners as he has made 47 saves, including posting a 0.93 goals against average, which is top of the conference. Milner is second in save percentage at .783.
 
Previewing Purchase: The Panthers head to Newburgh on Saturday with a 7-7-1 overall record and a 5-3 record in Skyline action after dropping a 3-1 decision against Maritime.
 
Rolando Osguera is the leader in goals with four and points with 11. Juan Arboleda has the team standard in assists with four as Osguera has three helpers on the year.
 
Mario Olmedo has started all 15 games for Purchase as he has posted a goals against average of 1.76. Olmedo has made 64 saves and holds a save percentage of .703.
 
What's Next: The Knights continues its three game homestand with a Skyline Conference tilt against Purchase on Thursday evening. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
