Knights Travel To Non-Conference Foe Rutgers-Newark

Knights play final non-conference road match Saturday afternoon

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team will take to the road for its final non-conference road match of the season Saturday afternoon when it heads to Rutgers-Newark. The Knights and Scarlet Raiders are set to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary has dropped its last five contests and enters the weekend with a 7-13 overall record. The Mount fell in five sets to league rival Farmingdale State on Monday and last won on September 28 with a four set victory over Maritime.
 
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) continues her standout rookie campaign for the Mount, leading the offensive attack for the Knights. She has put away 208 kills and holds the team lead in service aces with 43.  Riddle sits second on the team in digs with 187 and total blocks with 25.
 
Senior Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) holds the team lead in total blocks with 48 and is second on the team with 117 kills. Junior Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) is third on the squad with 107 winners and has added 105 digs and 11 total blocks.
 
Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) and Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) have handled the setting duties for the Knights in 2019. Mazzurco leads the team with 238 helpers, while Cammarata has handed out 232 assists. Mazzurco chips in 23 service aces for the Knights.
 
Junior Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) is putting together a solid season for the Mount with 57 kills, 25 aces, 115 digs and 10 total blocks, while Danielle Guarasci (Plainview, N.Y.) is contributing 38 kills and 18 total blocks for the Mount. Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) holds down the back row with a team-high 284 digs and adds 33 assists and 32 service aces.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 over visiting Farmingdale State on Monday, but suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Rams in a key Skyline Conference contest.
 
Riddle led the offense with 17 kills and 13 digs, with Burke posting 13 winners for the Mount and a trio of total blocks. Mazzurco handed out 35 assists in the loss and Barbara lifted 21 digs for the second straight outing.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the night with a 40-36 advantage in kills, but committed 12 more attack errors. The Knights closed the match with a 17-9 edge in service aces, while the Rams posted a 7-5 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Previewing Rutgers-Newark: The Scarlet Raiders begin play on Saturday with an 11-8 overall record, but have dropped five of their last six outings. The lone win over that stretch came in five sets over Brooklyn on October 3, while the team dropped a straight set decision to Stockton in its most recent outing on Tuesday.
 
Comfort Akinbo leads the team in kills with 263, averaging better than four winners per set, and adds 15 total blocks to date on the season. Karly Gregoire has handed out 574 assists, nearly nine per frame, to lead the team and also holds the team lead with 48 aces.
 
Defensively, Brione Lockett is tops on the team with 292 digs, nearly five per set, while Meredith Moore is the team leader with 26 total blocks.
 
Recent History: The two teams have met seven times starting in 2009 with the  Mount winning each decision. The Mount and Scarlet Raiders have not met since 2016, with the Knights taking a 3-0 decision on September 27, 2016 at the Kaplan Center.
 
What's Next: The Knights return to conference play on Tuesday when they play host to Manhattanville. First serve with the Valiants is set for 7:00 p.m.
