Knights Travel To Preseason Favorite USMMA Tuesday Night

Knights enter week at 2-1 against league rivals

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team heads back on the road Tuesday night when it travels to Skyline Conference Preseason favorite USMMA for a 7:00 p.m. contest with the Mariners. Live Stats and Video will be available for those unable to attend the contest.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary begins the week at 7-9 overall and 2-1 in Skyline Conference play after splitting a pair of matches on Saturday. The Mount topped league for Maritime in four sets to open play on Saturday, before dropping a straight set non-conference decision to visiting Ramapo.
 
Freshman Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) begins the week as the team's leader in kills with 165 and service aces with 38 and ranks second on the squad in digs with 153 and total blocks with 19. Riddle has reached double-figures in kills seven times, including a career-high 24 on Tuesday against Delhi, and is averaging 2.84 winners per set for the Knights.
 
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) continues to lead the way for the Mount in total blocks with 40 on the season and enters the week second on the team with 97 kills. Burke currently sits fourth on the squad with 18 service aces.
 
Freshman Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) holds the team lead in assists with 216, while senior Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) has handed out 177 helpers to go along with 16 service aces for the Knights.
 
Sophomore Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) anchors the back row for the Knights with 228 digs, averaging 4.30 per frame, and is contributing 27 assists and 25 service aces.
 
Last Time Out: The Mount hosted Maritime and Ramapo on Saturday, earning a split following a four set victory over the Privateers and a straight set loss to the Roadrunners.
 
In the victory over Maritime, Riddle posted 11 kills while hitting .296 and added nine digs, three aces and a trio of total blocks. Mazzurco handed out 23 assists for the Mount, while Barbara joined Riddle with a team-high nine digs.
 
Against Ramapo, Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) paced the offensive attack with eight kills, while Riddle put away six kills and joined Barbara with a team-high 16 digs. Mazzurco rounded out the day with a team-high 14 assists.
 
Scouting USMMA: The Mariners enter Tuesday's winners of eight straight contests and with a 10-5 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark against Skyline Conference rivals. USMMA has not dropped a set since a 3-1 loss to Maine Maritime on September 14.
 
Paige Smith and Kyleigh Kappas lead the offensive attack for the Mariners entering the week. Smith has recorded 195 kills, averaging 4.06 winners per set, and she is set up by Kappas who has totaled 441 assists, averaging better than nine helpers per frame. Kappas also holds the team lead in service aces with 32.
 
Cadee Fromm and Juliet Vendl sit atop the team leaderboard in total blocks with 28 and 24, respectively, while Nicole Ibsinson has lifted a team best 171 digs.
 
League Leaders: The two teams enter the week with several players among the league leaders through the first month of the season. For USMMA, Smith and Kappas lead the Skyline Conference in kills and assists per set, respectively, with Kappas also ranking ninth in service aces per set. Fromm and Vendl check in fifth and sixth in total blocks per frame, while Ibinson ranks eighth in digs per set.
 
For the Mount, Burke begins play on Tuesday second in the league in total blocks per set, while Barbara sits fourth in digs per frame. Mazzurco sits 10th in helpers per set, while Riddle finds herself sixth in kills per set and 11th in service aces per stanza.
 
Recent History: Since 2011 the teams have met four times, with the Mariners holding a 3-1 record. The Mount's last win in the series came in three sets in Newburgh on September 20, 2011.
 
What's Next: The Knights step outside of conference on the weekend when they head to Schenectady, N.Y. to take on Union and St. John Fisher on Saturday.
