Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday night, defeating Sarah Lawrence 64-37. Junior
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) finished with career-high 14 points to pace the Knights.
The Knights jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead behind five points from
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) and a putback from
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.). The lead was pushed to 10 early in the first quarter following a bucket from
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.).Â
The Gryphons responded by cutting the lead to four early in the second quarter following an Emmamazy Prior jumper. The Mount countered with an 8-0 run with Smith scoring four points. She finished with 11 points in the first half.
Gabriella Rafaniello (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored eight points within a two minute span to push the Knights lead to 14. The Knights finished the first half with 21 of the 34 points coming from Rafaniello and Smith.
The third quarter finished with the Knights outscoring the Gryphons 16-8. Pace rattled in two threes,
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) scored the first five points of the quarter and Bojka added four points to pace the Mount. Pace then added the first eight points of the final period to give her a career-high in points.
Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.) scored the final four points of the night for the Knights as they went on to a 27 point victory.
Pace finished the night 5-for-9 from the field, including 4-of-6 from the three-point arc. Smith was 5-for-10 from the field on the night and knocked down one three-pointer. Bojka and Rafaniello each chipped in 10 points, a career-high for Rafaniello, with Bojka finishing with career-high 13 rebounds, good for a double-double for the night. Desrats and
Jordyn Hellpap (Hackensack, N.J.) each had a team-high four assists while
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) added nine rebounds on the contest.
Prior finished with 12 points for Sarah Lawrence and Camryn Davis has 10 points and nine rebounds. Melanie Coleman chipped in seven rebounds for the Gryphons.
Mount Saint Mary finished the night outshooting Sarah Lawrence 33.3-percent to 28.6-percent and knocked down four more three-point field goals. The Mount outrebounded the Gryphons 57-33 and secured 25 offensive rebounds. The Knights scored 19 points off turnovers and 12 second chance points. The Mount also outscored Sarah Lawrence 28-12 in the paint.
At 10-4 overall and 7-0 in conference, the Knights will travel to Old Westbury on Thursday night. Tip-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
