Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) led four players in double-figures with 17 points, while
Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.) and
Nick Lucas (Sparta, N.J.) produced career-highs in scoring as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team cruised to an 83-61 home Skyline Conference victory over Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday night.
Mount Saint Mary led wire-to-wire on Tuesday and moved in front 30-7 on a Millett triple just past the midway point of the opening stanza. The Knights limited the Gryphons to just three field goals over the first 10:31 of the contest, while the Mount went 12-for-15 from the floor, including a 3-for-3 effort from long distance over the opening stretch.
Sarah Lawrence whittled the lead down to 34-22 on an Omar Jamaleddine second chance bucket with 6:32 left before the half, but the Mount answered back with a triple from Francis and finished the half on a 12-3 run, including a Lucas conversion with 15 seconds left, to carry a 46-25 lead into the intermission.
Mount Saint Mary shot a blistering 62.1-percent from the floor overall and went 6-for-9 from three-point range prior to halftime. The visitors were held to 33.3-percent shooting over the opening 20 minutes and 4-for-17 from three-point range. Lucas led all scorers at halftime with 11 points, going 4-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-4 from three-point range.
The Mount's advantage did not fall below 14 points in the second half and grew to a game-high 25 points on a
Jovin Ramos (Secaucus, N.J.) three-pointer in the final half minute that put the Mount in front 83-58. The trey was the Mount's only of the second half, but the Knights converted at an even 50-percent overall over the final 20 minutes.
The Knights shot a season-high 55.9-percent as a team in the game and matched their season-high for field goals in a game with 33. The Mount shot better than 40-percent from three-point range for the fifth time this season after going 7-for-17 from down town against the Gryphons.
Francis wrapped up the night 7-for-11 from the floor to go along with four assists, while Millett reached a career-high 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting, also adding four helpers and a steal. Lucas closed the night with a career-high 11 points and added six rebounds, while
Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) produced 14 points off the bench on the strength of 5-for-10 shooting.
Sophomore
Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Mount with seven rebounds on the night and chipped in five points, with
Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) contributing four points, a pair of assists and a blocked shot.
Sarah Lawrence was led by 13 points from Enike Anyia who also posted a game-high nine rebounds. Gabriel Eng produced nine points and Austin Jones finished the game with eight points and a game-high seven assists.
Mount Saint Mary controlled points in the paint at 46-24 and turned 20 Sarah Lawrence turnovers into 23 points. The Knights also held a commanding 20-0 edge in transition points, while the Gryphons finished with a 15-4 edge in second chance scoring.
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 9-4 overall on the season and to 6-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Old Westbury on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off with the Panthers.
