Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Yeshiva, Wins Ninth Straight

Knights hold Yeshiva to season low 37 points

New York, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team rattled off its ninth consecutive win and remained unbeaten in Skyline Conference play as the Knights defeated Yeshiva 76-37. Senior Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led a quartet of double digit scorers with 18 points.

The Knights began the contest by rattling off a 21-2 first quarter lead. After an early layup from Yeshiva's Tehilla Teigman layup, the Mount scored 21 unanswered points in the first period. Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) led the way with five points, including a three-pointer, in the quarter while Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) and Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) each had four.

The Maccabees cut the lead to 17 a couple times early in the second quarter as they played a back-and-forth first few minutes of the period. The Knights responded by going on a 16-6 run to end the quarter with a 47-17 lead. Cleare led the way with 10 points in the quarter and Limonta and Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) each chipped in five apiece.

Cleare had 12 points at the half for the Knights as Limonta added nine and Desrats chipped in eight. The Knights finished the first half shooting 46.5-percent from the field and 50.0-percent from three as well as holding Yeshiva to 30.8-percent shooting, including 0-for-8 from three, and forcing 18 turnovers.

The Knights pushed the lead to 39 points following a Pace three-pointer with 3:38 remaining in the third quarter. Cleare added six points early in the third period to finish the contest with a team-high 18 points. Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) scored six straight points over a one-minute stretch in the quarter.

Kassidy Hallum (Lake Grove, N.Y.) knocked down a pair of triples and Cameron Villanueva (Columbia, Conn.) buried a jumper to push the Knights lead to a game-high 42 points in the fourth quarter as the Knights rolled to a 76-37 victory.

The Mount's shooting cooled to 34.3-percent as a team and only 3-for-11 from the three-point arc in the second half.  Yeshiva was limited to 21.9-percent from the field and 5-for-18 from three after halftime.

Cleare finished the contest 9-for-12 from the field as Limonta finished the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds, good for a double-double. Desrats and Pace each added 10 points apiece and Bojka finished with six points and nine rebounds.

Smith and Desrats each had a game-high five assists, Cleare chipped in eight rebounds and Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.), Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) and Limonta each had three steals.

Nicole Bick and Chana Boltax each had nine points for Yeshiva and Michal Alge finished with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists. Boltax finished 3-for-4 from behind the three-point stripe.

Mount Saint Mary finished with 19 assists on 32 made field goals and shot 41.0-percent as a team. They knocked down seven triples, compared to Yeshiva's five, and outscored Yeshiva by three at the free throw line. The Knights held the Maccabees to 25.9-percent from the field and forced 25 turnovers.

The Mount finished the night outscoring Yeshiva 27-3 in points off turnovers and converted 17 second chance points. The Knights outrebounded the Macs 52-40 and outscored them in the points in the paint 36-6.

The victory moves Mount Saint Mary to 17-4 overall and 14-0 in the Skyline Conference. Next up for the Mount is a home contest against Farmingdale State on Saturday.  Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
