Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team goes on the road to take on New Paltz on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and then travels to Skyline foe Farmingdale State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
At a Glance: The Knights dropped their first game in five weeks after losing to Middlebury on Monday to push the Mount to 8-3 (5-0 Skyline) this season.
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) continues to lead the Mount in scoring with 11.2 points per game,
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) is second with 9.5 points and
Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) adds 9.1 points per game.
Limonta leads the Knights in rebounding with 9.0 per night, Cleare is second with 7.8 and
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) is third with 6.2. Smith leads in assists with 30 and
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) has 25 helpers on the season.
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J) has the team lead in steals with 13, Keenan is next with 12 and Cleare and
Maite Gritsko (Milford, C.T.) each have 10 this season. Limonta and Cleare share the team lead in blocks with nine and Keenan has five blocks on the season.
The Mount is averaging 60.5 points per game on 37.2-percent shooting from the field and 25.4-percent shooting from three. They have allowed only 53.9 per night on 30.7-percent shooting and 26.7-percent shooting from the three-point line.
Last Time Out: The Mount's seven game winning streak was snapped on Monday following a 64-44 defeat at the hands of Middlebury.
Keenan and
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) each had 11 points for the Knights. Gritsko,
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, Conn.) and Tabasco each chipped in five points on the afternoon for the Knights. Bojka, Smith and Cleare each had a team-high four rebounds and Gritsko had three assists. Keenan finished the day 4-for-7 from the field and knocked down three triples. Bojka finished 4-for-8 and made three free throws.
Middlebury finished the day outshooting the Knights 38.5-percent to 30.2-percent. The Panthers knocked down three more three-pointers, while the Mount knocked down one more free throw. Middlebury dominated the paint, outscoring the Knights 24-14, and cashed in 21 second chance points. The Panthers also converted 10 Mount turnovers into 10 points and outrebounded Mount Saint Mary 33-19.
A Look at New Paltz: The Hawks come into the contest at 5-4 (2-1 SUNYAC) following a victory on Sunday against Delaware Valley University.
Rachel Simon leads the Hawks in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per contest while Lindsay Bettke, 14.2 points per game, and Marion Dietz, 11.4 points per game, round out the double digit scorers. New Paltz has eight players averaging three or more rebounds per game with Paige Niemeyer leading with 5.0 per contest.
Bettke leads the team in assists with 34 and Taylor Howell is second with 27 while Simon and Dietz each have 17 on the season. Howell leads the team in steals with 17, Simon has 14 and Bettke has 10 for New Paltz. Dietz has the team lead in blocks with seven and Nicole Ziogas is next with six.
New Paltz averages 71.3 points per game on 36.1-percent from the field and 30.3-percent from the three-point stripe. Defensively, they are allowing 68.0 points per contest on 40.9-percent from the field and 31.3-percent from the three-point arc.
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams are 1-9 (1-4 Skyline) this season following losses to NYU and Mount Union at the NYU Holiday Classic last weekend. They will take on Sarah Lawrence on Thursday prior to facing off against the Knights.
Nia Miller is the leading scorer with 13.6 points per game and Destiny Hurt averages 10.5 points per contest. Alexis Hunter leads in rebounds with 9.7 per game, Christina Rayfield averages 5.8 and Stacy Papantoniou pulls down 5.0 per contest.
Miller leads the team in assists with 48 and Hunter is next with 14. Miller and Hunter are tied for the team lead in steals with 18 and Rayfield has 11 on the season. Hunter is the blocks leader with nine.
Farmingdale averages 47.7 points on 28.6-percent from the field and 26.5-percent from the three-point stripe. Defensively, they allow 67.4 points on 38.5-percent from the field and 34.5-percent from the three-point line.
What's Next: The Knights return home to take on Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday at the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
