Men’s Basketball Gets Back Into Win Column At Maritime

Fox posts double-double in win

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Sophomore Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded a double-double, including a career-high 15 points, as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team stopped a two game skid on Thursday with a convincing 66-41 road Skyline Conference victory at Maritime.

After falling behind 8-0 early on against the Privateers, Mount Saint Mary put together a 14-0 run capped by a Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) jumper to pull in front by six with 9:36 left before halftime. The Knights never trailed after gaining the lead in the first half and scored 13 of the final 16 points of the opening stanza to carry a 27-14 lead into the intermission.

The Mount shot an even 40-percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and had seven different players find the scoring column, led by six first half points from Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.). Maritime shot just 5-for-20 from the floor after the hot start and turned the ball over 18 times prior to the intermission.

Maritime would get as close as 11 points early in the second half, but the Knight quickly pushed the lead to 31-16 on a three-point play from Francis 47 seconds into the half. The lead reached 22 on a Nick Lucas (Sparta, N.J.) triple at the 13:06 mark of the second half and bulged to a game-high three times in the final 4:35. Fox put the Mount in front 59-30 at the 4:35 mark, before Millett pushed the Knights in front 61-32 at the 2:46 mark and Lucas hit a jumper with 91 seconds left to get the advantage to 63-34.

Mount Saint Mary improved to an even 50-percent from the floor in the second half with Fox scoring 11 of his team-high 15 points after the break. Maritime went just 1-for-9 from three-point range in the second half and shot only 33.3-percent from the floor overall.

Fox rounded out the big night 6-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, adding a team-high 10 rebounds and a steal. Francis finished up with 10 points for the Knights with Millett, Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) and Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) each scoring eight points. Bacci led the team with six assists with Morton and Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) both totaling three steals.

Maritime was led by nine points from Brendan McGovern with Nick Ovanessian totaling five points and four rebounds for the Privateers.

Mount Saint Mary closed the night shooting 45.5-percent from the floor, despite going 3-for-16 from three-point range. The Privateers were held to 28.9-percent by the Mount defense, with the Knights holding a 42-4 advantage in paint points and a 19-15 edge in points off of turnovers.

At 8-3 overall and 5-1 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary concludes its road swing on Saturday with a trip to Farmingdale State. Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
