Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team continues its Skyline schedule when they play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday and then travel to Yeshiva on Tuesday evening. The Knights and Bears are scheduled to tip at 1:00 p.m. while the contest with the Maccabees is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY.
At a Glance: The Knights have won seven consecutive games and are unbeaten at 12-0 in the Skyline Conference after defeating Purchase 80-42 on Thursday evening.
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) continues to lead a balance scoring attack with 11.3 points per game,
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) is second on the team in scoring with 10.6 per game,
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) chips in 8.0 points and
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) adds 7.7 per contest.
Cleare is the leading rebounder with 8.0 per game, Keenan averages 6.3 per contest and
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) adds 3.9 per game. Smith is the leader in assists with 52, Desrats has 41 and Gritsko has 32 on the season.
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J) leads in steals with 26,
Maite Gritsko (Milford, C.T.) and Keenan each have 20 on the season. Cleare owns the team lead in blocks with 24 and Keenan has seven on the season.
The Mount is averaging 63.0 points per game on 38.8-percent shooting from the field and 28.3-percent shooting from three. They are third in the conference in scoring offense, averaging 69.7 points per contest in conference contests. They have allowed only 51.5 per night on 30.7-percent shooting and 26.6-percent shooting from the three-point line. The Knights have only allowed 48.8 per game in conference play, good for second in the Skyline.
Last Time Out: The Mount defeated Purchase in convincing fashion 80-42 on Thursday evening to extend the Knights winning streak to seven games.
Bojka finished 10-for-14 from the field en route to her career-high 20 points. Smith finished with 13 points and three assists while Desrats added 12 points, including four threes. Keenan chipped in 10 points and six rebounds as
Maite Gritsko (Milford, Conn.) and
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) each had a game-high four assists.
Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.) rattled off a career-high nine points in the final quarter.
The Mount finished the night shooting 51.5-percent shooting and 40.0-percent from the three-point line. They knocked down eight triples and four free throws. The Knights limited Purchase to 24.6-percent from the field and only five three-pointers. Mount Saint Mary outscored the Panthers 19-7 in points off turnovers and 34-16 in points in the paint. The Knights finished the contest outrebounding Purchase 46-31 and scored 16 second chance points.
A Look At St. Joseph's-Brooklyn: The Bears are 12-6 (9-3 Skyline) this season following a 90-66 victory over Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday. In their meeting earlier this season, the Mount defeated the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 74-64 at the Hill Center.
The Bears boast four double figures scorers, led by Victoria Porcasi who averages 18.8 points per game. Kelly O'Donnell scores 18.3 per contest, Caitlyn Staab adds 11.9 per game and Lauren Quesada chips in 11.3 per outing.
O'Donnell and Quesada each average just over 10 rebounds per game as they each average a double-double on the season. Staab also rips down 7.5 boards per contest.
Porcasi leads in assists per game with 3.6, O'Donnell adds 3.4 and Quesada chips in 3.1 helpers per contest. O'Donnell is the steals leader with 42 and the blocks leader with 21. Staab is second in blocks with 18.
The Bears are second in the conference in scoring offense, averaging 77.2 points per game on 38.7-percent shooting and 31.2-percent from three. Defensively, they are allowing 65.9 points per contest on 33.0-percent from the field and 26.1-percent from the three-point line.
Scouting Yeshiva: The Maccabees are 6-9 (3-6 Skyline) on the season and have not played since December 30 when they lost 79-76 against Goucher. They will take on St. Joseph's-L.I. on Sunday before hosting the Knights on Tuesday evening. In the last matchup, the Knights took care of the Maccabees 77-59 in Newburgh.
Yeshiva has three double digit scorers with Nicole Bick leading the way with 20.2 points per game. Bick is the top scorer in the Skyline Conference. Tehilla Teigman averages 13.5 points per contest and Michal Alge is averaging a double-double on the season with 13.0 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.
Alge is the leader in assists with 49 and Bick is second with 45 while Alge also leads in steals with 48 and blocks with 11.
The Maccabees are averaging 63.6 points per game on the season, good for third best in the conference, on 33.1-percent shooting and 25.3-percent from the three-point arc. They are allowing 67.1 points per contest on 37.8-percent from the field and 31.9-percent from deep.
What's Next: The Knights play host to Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
