Men’s Basketball Ready To Square-Off with St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn, Yeshiva

Knights look to bounce back following loss to Purchase

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team continues the conference slate on Saturday, playing host to the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn before traveling to Yeshiva on Tuesday night. The Knights and Bears will square-off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday with Tuesday's contest with the Maccabees set for 8:00 p.m.

MSMC At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a tough 76-41 road loss against Purchase on Thursday to halt their two game winning streak. The Mount is undefeated at 8-0 at home and enters the Saturday contest at 11-7 (8-5 Skyline).

The Mount features a pair of players averaging in doubles-figures in scoring with junior Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) leading the way with 19.4 points per outing, ranking third in the conference in scoring.

Sophomore Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) is averaging 10.4 points per game, while Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) is coming off the bench to average 8.9 points per game for the Knights. Sienke is shooting 54.1-percent from the field and is hauling in 3.9 rebounds per game, while Morton is converting at 45.0-percent from the field.

Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.Y.) and Francis are tied for the team lead in assists with 45 on the season. Bacci is second in assists with 43 and is also second on the team in rebounding average, while Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) leads the team on the glass with just under six caroms per night and holds the team lead in blocked shots with 16.

As a unit, Mount Saint Mary is shooting 44.0-percent and 32.0-percent from three-point range, averaging 67.8 points per game and paces the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 67.7 points per night.

Last Time Out: The Mount dropped a 78-43 road Skyline Conference decision at Purchase. The Knights did not have a player reach double figures in scoring, with Bacci and Francis leading the way with nine points each.

Francis was held to a season-low nine points on 2-for-13 shooting against the Panthers, while Bacci rounded out the night with two of the team's three triples and added a team-high six rebounds. Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) led the team with two blocks and added five points, while Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) produced eight points off the bench.

Mount Saint Mary shot a season-low 26.5-percent shooting after going 13-for-49 from the floor. The Mount finished 3-for-18 from three-point range and misfired on 15 free-throws. Purchase finished the game shooting just under 44-percent and outscored the Mount by 10 from the free-throw line and in points off of turnovers.

Scouting the Bears: St. Joseph's-Brooklyn stands at 7-11 overall and 6-8 in Skyline Conference play following a 66-64 victory over Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday. In their last meeting, the Knights dropped a tight 98-94 overtime contest in Brooklyn on December 1.

The Bears have a quartet of players scoring in double-figures on the season with Sebastian Etheart leading the way with 16.9 points per game, Frank Reali adding 15.2 points per outing, new addition Bryan Medy chipping in 14.0 points per contest and Dimitri Sirakis averaging 10.4 per game. Etheart also paces the team on the backboards with 10.1 rebounds per game, good for a double-double on the season.

Etheart averages 4.5 assists per contest and Sirakis adds 3.1 helpers per game. Reali leads in steals with 39 and Etheart has 32 on the season. Kavan Meiner leads in blocks with 18 and Etheart has 12 blocked shots on the year.

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn is scoring 79.3 points per game and is shooting 42.6-percent as a team and 31.9-percent from three-point range. The Bears are dead last in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 85.5 points per game and fourth in scoring offense.

Previewing the Maccabees:  Yeshiva stands at the top of the Skyline Conference at 11-5 overall on the season and 9-2 in league play following a 104-60 blowout win over Maritime on Thursday night. The Maccabees travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Sunday before hosting the Knights on Tuesday evening. In their meeting earlier this season, the Knights pulled off the upset, defeating Yeshiva 70-63 in Newburgh on November 29.

The Maccabees have four players scoring in double-figures on the season, led by the conference's top scorer in Ryan Turell who averages 21.8 per night, who shoots 56.5-percent from the floor and 46.9-percent from three-point range. Simcha Halpert, Gabriel Leifer and Daniel Tzion each average over 10 points per contest with Halpert shooting 45.0-percent from three.

Leifer is the leading rebounder with 11.6 per contest, good for a double-double average, while he also leads in assists with 81, blocks with 37 and steals with 28. Daniel Katz is second in assists with 56 and Turell has 55 helpers on the season.

The Macs are shooting 53.4-percent as a team heading into the weekend and 39.9-percent from three-point range. Yeshiva has the top scoring offense in the conference with 87.3-points per game while being third in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 71.9 points per outing.

What's Next: Following Tuesday's contest, the Knights will return home to host Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
