Bojka’s Career High Paces Mount Saint Mary In Convincing Victory Over Purchase

Sophomore scores 20 points to set her career-high

Purchase, N.Y.Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) netted a career-high 20 points and ripped down a team-high seven rebounds as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team defeated Purchase in convincing fashion 80-42. The win extended the Knights winning streak to seven games.

The Knights ran out to a quick 9-0 start, capped by a Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) jumper early in the first quarter. Bojka scored her first bucket of the night to push the lead to 14-5 as the Mount ended the first period with a 16-7 advantage. Six different players scored for the Knights in the first period.

A Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) layup gave the Knights a 16-point advantage in the second quarter, which was the biggest lead of the first half. Bojka finished the quarter with four straight points as the Mount took a 15-point lead into the halftime intermission. Smith had nine points at the break and Bojka chipped in six points.

The Knights finished the first half shooting at a 50.0-percent clip and buried three triples. They limited Purchase to 23.3-percent from the field and only gave up two made field goals in the first quarter.

The third quarter began with two three-pointers from Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) and one from Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) as the Knights lead grew to 20. The second Desrats triple ignited a 20-9 run where Bojka and Desrats each had six points. The third quarter lead jumped to as much as 31 and a Savannah Lopez cut the lead to 28 at the end of the third period.

The Knights concluded the contest on a 15-2 run as Bojka had six points and Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.) rattled off a career-high nine points in the final quarter. The Mount finished the second half shooting a blistering 52.5-percent from the field in the second half and knocked down five triples. The Panthers were held to 25.9-percent shooting and only buried two three-pointers.

Bojka finished 10-for-14 from the field en route to her career-high 20 points. Smith finished with 13 points and three assists while Desrats added 12 points, including four threes. Keenan chipped in 10 points and six rebounds as Maite Gritsko (Milford, Conn.) and Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) each had a game-high four assists.

Nyasia Harris finished with a double-double on the night, scoring 13 points and securing 10 rebounds for Purchase. Amber Yarter added nine points and Shadai Plowden chipped in seven points and nine rebounds for the Panthers.

The Mount finished the night shooting 51.5-percent shooting and 40.0-percent from the three-point line. They knocked down eight triples and four free throws. The Knights limited Purchase to 24.6-percent from the field and only five three-pointers. Mount Saint Mary outscored the Panthers 19-7 in points off turnovers and 34-16 in points in the paint. The Knights finished the contest outrebounding Purchase 46-31 and scored 16 second chance points.

At 15-4 overall and 12-0 in the Skyline, the Mount returns home on Saturday to take on St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Tip-off at the Kaplan Center with the Bears is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
