Knights Set For Duel with Unbeaten United States Merchant Marine Academy, St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Two unbeaten conference records face off on Saturday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team conclude their short two-game road trip against undefeated United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and return home to take on St. Joseph's-L.I. on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.

At a Glance: The Knights head into the contest on a three game winning streak following a 69-61 victory over Old Westbury on Thursday night.

Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) leads the scoring attack with 11.2 points per game and averages 8.4 rebounds per contest. She is now six points short of 1,000 for her career and four rebounds away from breaking the Mount Saint Mary career rebounds record of 905 set by LaSheena Brown during 2003-07 seasons.

Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) is second on the team in scoring with 10.5 per game, Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) adds 7.3 per contest and Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) chips in 7.1 points. Keenan also grabs 6.5 rebounds per game.

Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J) and Keenan are tied for the team lead in steals with 16, and Maite Gritsko (Milford, C.T.) has 13 this season. Cleare owns the team lead in blocks with 15 and Keenan has six on the season.

The Mount is averaging 60.1 points per game on 36.3-percent shooting from the field and 26.5-percent shooting from three. They have allowed only 53.1 per night on 30.6-percent shooting and 25.8-percent shooting from the three-point line.

Last Time Out: The Mount won their third straight game defeating Old Westbury 69-61 in a back and forth contest.

Smith's career high 21 points came on 8-for-10 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw stripe. She also chipped in a team-high four assists. Bojka finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists on the night. Gritsko added eight points and five boards while Tabasco chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.

The Knights finished the night shooting 37.5-percent from the field compared to Old Westbury's 33.3-percent. The Panthers buried five more threes but the Knights finished 15 more free throws. The Mount held the edge in points off turnovers at 18-13 as well as second chance points at 19-15.

A Look At USMMA: The Mariners are undefeated at 11-0 (7-0 Skyline) following a 58-37 victory over St. Joseph's-L.I. on Thursday.

USMMA is led by Lauren Hunter, who averages a double-double on 21.2 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per game. Hunter leads the Skyline in points per contest and is second in the league in rebounds per game.

Kaleigh D'Arcy averages 12.7 points per contest and 5.9 rebounds per night. Shelby Peters averages 8.8 rebounds per game and Taylor Hightower adds 8.5 per contest.

Hightower leads in assists with 43, D'Arcy has 33 on the season and Julia Dahlke has 32 helpers on the year. Hightower also leads in steals with 19, Dahlke has 18 and Peters has 16. Hightower and Peters are tied for the blocks lead with 18 and D'Arcy adds 14 on the season.

The Mariners are averaging 63.3 points per game on 38.9-percent from the field and 25.4-percent from the three-point arc. Defensively, they are limiting teams to 59.0 points per contest on 36.8-percent from the field and 26.0-percent from three. During conference play, Merchant Marine has held teams to 42.5 points per game, good for the top mark in scoring defense.

Scouting St. Joseph's-L.I.: The Golden Eagles are 2-12 (1-7 Skyline) after a 58-37 defeat at the hands of Merchant Marine on Thursday. They will host Farmingdale State on Saturday before traveling to Newburgh on Tuesday.

St. Joseph's-L.I. is led by freshman Alyssa Signor, who is averaging 16.1 points per game, good for sixth in the Skyline in scoring, and 5.3 rebounds per contest. N'Dea Maddox is second with 9.8 per contest and Alicia Indence adds 8.3 points per game.

Juliana Cintron-Leonardo is the leading rebounder with 8.2 per game, Cailee Greco adds 5.3 per night and Lindsey McKenna averages 4.9 per contest. Maddox is the leader in assists with 32 helpers on the season and Indence has 30 assists on the year.
Signor also leads in steals with 37, Maddox is second with 19 and Cintron-Leonardo has 12. Cintron-Leonardo has the team lead in blocks with six and Signor has five.

The Golden Eagles are averaging 51.9 points per game on 32.5-percent from the field and 19.8-percent from the three-point line. Defensively, they only allow 50.5 points per contest on 29.1-percent from the field and 19.0-percent from deep.

What's Next: The Knights return to action on Saturday, January 19th as they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Tip-off with the Dolphins is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
