Women's Volleyball Set For New Paltz Hawks Invitational

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team travels to New Paltz to play in the SUNY New Paltz Hawks Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The first two matches will be against Hamilton College at 5:00 p.m. and St. Lawrence University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will then take on SUNY New Paltz at 10:00 a.m. and Alfred University at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

At a Glance: The Knights are off to a tough start with a 0-4 record on the season with setbacks to Plattsburgh State, Plymouth State, The Sage Colleges and FDU-Florham.
Sophomore Danielle Kralik (26) and Junior Morgan Burke (23) lead the team in kills. Senior Kim Gries is the leader in assists with 91 for the Knights.

Sophomore Klaire Wall leads the team with 31 digs while Gries trails shortly with 29 and Kralik has 24. Senior Nicole Spinelli leads the team in blocks with 7.0 and aces with 5.

A Look At Hamilton: The Continentals begin their season at the Hawks Invitational.

Hamilton returns 8 players from last year's team that finished with a 14-9 record and was 7-3 in the NESCAC.

Previewing St. Lawrence: The Saints sit at 2-2 on the season. They swept both Marywood University and Keuka College, 3-0 while suffering setbacks to SUNY Geneseo, 3-0, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 3-2.

Freshman Natalie Piper leads the team in kills with 43 while also leading with seven aces. Junior Maddy Bishop (61) and Senior Ally Good (40) lead the team in assists.

Freshman Reagan Collier-Hogan (38), Senior Grace Kelly (33) and Piper (32) lead the Saints in digs. Junior Amanda Teppo leads the team in blocks with 14.0.

Scouting SUNY New Paltz: The host Hawks are 2-2 heading into the Invitational. They were swept by the College of Saint Benedict, 3-0, and defeated by University of Texas at Tyler, 3-1. They were victorious against Covenant College, 3-1, and Maryville College, 3-2.

The quartet of Julie Greenspan, Madison Van Pelt, Taylor Cimillo, and Demi Herasme have combined for 151 kills on the season. Senior Meredith Dignan is the main setter with 105 assists.

The trio of Nicole Fellone, Dignan and Cimillo have combined for 156 digs for the Hawks. Junior Kerri Neville and Herasme are tied for the team lead with 9.0 blocks apiece.

Analyzing Alfred University: The Saxons have gotten off to a slow start after losing their first four matches. They have dropped matches to Roger Williams University, Augsburg University, Trine University and Montclair State University.

Junior Amber Smith leads the Saxons attack with 40 kills. Sophomore Amanda Burns has emerged as the leading assist getter with 85, also leading the team in aces with four. 

Senior Elizabeth Estep (41) and Junior Mikala McCartney (26) lead Alfred in digs. Freshman Lainey Arneson leads the team in blocks with 3.0.

What's Next: The Knights returns home to face off against the The City College of New York on Tuesday, September 11. The match is set for an 7:00 p.m. start.
