Aston, Pa. – Freshman
Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) broke a scoreless tie in the second overtime on Sunday when she finished off her first career goal to give the Knights a hard fought 1-0 road win at Neumann on. DeSantis becomes the third different player to score for the Knights over the first two games of the season.
After the Knights outshot Neumann 15-8 in regulation time and 5-0 in the first overtime period, DeSantis got the game winner on the team's only shot of the second overtime period. She received a pass from
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) and finished off the tally at 103:36 mark of the contest.
Mount Saint Mary had nine different players record a shot in the game, led by six attempts from
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.). Alexa Franceshi (Red Hook, N.Y.) and
Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) each recorded three shots, while
Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) produced four shots for the Knights.
Freshman
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) picked up her second career shutout on Sunday, stopping three shots for the Knights. Anna Attardi made 10 stops for Neumann in the tough luck loss.
For the game, Mount Saint Mary outshot Neumann 21-8 overall and 11-3 in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the tilt were even at 6-6.
At 2-0 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to action for two games at the Mayor's Cup in Oneonta this weekend. The Knights open play at the event against Hartwick on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
