Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.) drove in the game's only run in the Knights' final at-bat as the Mount Saint Mary College Softball team extended its season with a 1-0 win over Immaculata. The Knights will tussle with St. John Fisher later Saturday in their second elimination game of the day.
Connoly carried a perfect game into the seventh inning against the Mighty Macs and worked around a leadoff single in the seventh inning to match her career-high with her 14
th win of the year. Sher struck out seven without a walk, allowing just one single as she moved to 14-9 on the year. Connoly's ERA stands at 2.08 heading into Saturday's contest with #6 St. John Fisher to go along with 192 strikeouts against only 16 walks.
Mount Saint Mary was held without a hit until
Taylor Canto (Walden, N.Y.) shot a two-out single to center field and advanced to second base on a walk to Moustouka. After going down in order in the sixth, the Knights strung together three hits in the seventh to push across the only run of the tilt.
Kathryn Eiler (Merrick, N.Y.) led off the inning with a single, the Mount's second hit of the day, and moved along to second on a sacrifice bunt. Canto recorded her second hit of the day to move pinch runner
Erin McCann (East Haven, Conn.) to third ahead of Moustouka who shot a single through the left side to give the Knights the only run they would need.
Canto finished the win 2-for-3 with Eiler and Moustouka collecting the only other hits of the game for the Mount. McCann scored the lone run with
Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) getting down a sacrifice bunt to get the winning run into scoring position.
Emma Bischoff suffered the tough luck loss for the Mighty Macs, allowing just the one run on four singles. She fell to 15-6 after fanning five and walking two. Emily Mesey picked up the only hit of the game for Immaculata.
The win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 21-15 heading into Saturday's elimination game with St. John Fisher.
