Softball Sees Season End With Loss To #6 St. John Fisher

Almodovar records lone hit, Connoly fans six

Rochester, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday following a 3-0 loss to #6 St. John Fisher. Junior Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.) recorded the team's only hit, while senior Cindy Connoly (Walden, N.Y.) struck out six.
 
The Cardinals, who were topped by Geneseo earlier in the day in a winner's bracket contest., staved off elimination with two runs in the third inning and an insurance tally in the sixth. Julia Sortisio got the scoring started with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the third inning.
 
St. John Fisher added the final run of the game in the top of the sixth when Sammie Torlish hit a two-out double and then was chased home on a single from Emily Trotman.
 
Sortisio finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBI, with Trotman adding two hits and an RBI. Katie Mazierski added a pair of hits for St. John Fisher and scored a run.
 
Almodovar picked up the only hit of the game for the Knights, a leadoff infield single in the seventh. She was the only base runner for the Mount in the contest.
 
Connoly suffered the loss and finishes the season at 14-10 overall on the season. She allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out six. She closes the season with a 198 strikeouts and a 2.12 earned run average. Lindsey Thayer earned her 22nd win of the year for the Cardinals, allowing one hit and striking out 15.
 
Mount Saint Mary finishes the season with a 21-16 overall record.
