Chester, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team remained unbeaten in Skyline Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday.
Jake Stewart (Wallkill, N.Y.) worked a complete game in a 4-1 game one win, with
John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) firing a complete game in a 4-2 game two triumph.
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 4 – Mount Saint Vincent 1
The Knights got all the scoring they needed in the opener with single runs in both the first and second innings.
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) got the Mount on the board with a single that delivered Santana in the first, with
Jaiden Bonet (Bronx, N.Y.) doubling the lead with an RBI single in the second that brought home
Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) with the team's second run.
After the Dolphins cut their deficit in half in the third, the Mount plated a run in the eighth and ninth frames to pull away for the win. Introcaso blasted his second home run of the season in the eighth to push the Knights in front 3-1 and
Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) drove in the game's final run in the ninth.
Introcaso and Bonet each recorded two hits in the opener with Introcaso scoring a run and driving in a pair. Santana, Keenan and
Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.,) all scored for the Mount with Santana and Introcaso adding stolen bases.
Stewart moved to 2-1 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.59 with his first complete game of the season. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out four.
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 4 – Mount Saint Vincent 2
The Mount jumped out to a 2-0 lead again in game two with
Kevin Edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) singling home the game's first run in the first inning and Matt Kozireski (Montgomery, N.Y.) chasing home
Jasper Bradley (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) on a groundout to push the Mount in front 2-0 in the second.
Mount Saint Vincent evened the score in the second inning when Pedero Fortoso doubled home two runs, but the Knights answered with two runs in the fifth to jump in front for good in the game.
Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) drove in the eventual game winning run on a fielder's choice and Goodwin singled home Rizzo to close out the scoring in the game.
The game featured just five hits, with the Knights outhitting the Dolphins 4-1. Goodwin, Santana and Edgar all singled for the Mount with Goodwin and Edgar posting a hit and an RBI. Rizzo scored a run and drove one in to go along with a stolen base.
Santana allowed only one hits as he picked up his first win of the season. He walked two batters and struck out 10.
Saturday's sweep pushes the Mount to 11-5 overall and 6-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights finish off a busy weekend with a trip to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Sunday. First pitch with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
